Holy crap was this creepy. Just like the last book I reviewed, I recommend listening to the audiobook. The sense of dread is overwhelming, and I’m not sure you’d be able to create it that much for yourself by just reading.
Claire is the team leader of a salvage crew in space. They’re on their last mission and about to be moved on to different jobs. Claire doesn’t want to leave, because she has nothing to go home for. In the first few minutes you’re already feeling for Claire, and realizing that things are not going to end well.
Her crew picks up a signal from an emergency beacon, and they go to the far reaches of space to see what the heck is up with it. Listen to this book! I’m remembering the dread I felt as I walked around listening to this book. I listened in the middle of the day in bright sunshine, but I felt the dark and creepy horrors of space.
Obviously bad stuff happens on the ship that’s sending the emergency beacon. It’s full of bodies and parts of bodies, and the crew spends some time trying to figure out what happened. They’re also trying to make some money off the find, which adds a different and less altruistic dimension. I liked this book a lot, and I highly recommend it to horror fans.
If space freaks you out like it freaks me out, you’ll be super freaked out by this book!!
