Unfortunately, Not For Me

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

January 6, 2023 by Bibliophile 2 Comments

Before I got out of school for winter break I asked my school librarian for drive suggestions, since I had to endure some long flights. I’ve been reading a lot of mystery lately, so I asked for some suggestions in that genre. They all sounded good and seemed like things that I would enjoy, so I checked them out. Fast forward to about a week later, I started one of her suggestions, We Were Liars by E. Lockhart… We Were Liars is about a girl […]

Well, we aren’t calling you truthers…

Family of Liars by E. Lockhart

Right out of the gate, I’ve gotta be honest and say I forget most of We Were Liars, the book this is the prequel story to. I distinctly remember the grand reveal, the “we were liars” moment, catching me wildly off guard, but I only have the loosest idea of what occurred in those pages. Thankfully, this prequel book isn’t the type to rely heavily upon having intimate knowledge of the other book to appreciate it. I’d probably have enjoyed it plenty more if the […]

Return from Vacation – Various books!

Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang

Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes

Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

July 24, 2022 by booktrovert 2 Comments

I’ve just returned from our family vacation – where me, my husband and daughter caught Covid (there’s not many great times to catch Covid, but catching it while staying with your extended family in a vacation rental is definitely a supremely shitty time to catch Covid). My brain still feels a bit foggy, but as I return I’m excited to read all the posts about CBR Bingo. I am going to post my reviews from vacation reads (all completed after July 15) and claim their […]

Well, that escalated quickly

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

January 21, 2022 by Travis_J_Smith 2 Comments

Onto another of the books from my Christmas haul, We Were Liars isn’t my favorite book of the year so far, but it does probably take the title of most surprising. I thought I knew what I was getting into with this one, except I didn’t expect the lies that wound up being unearthed. What seems like an innocent enough story about a family absolutely obsessed with securing what they feel is rightly theirs from their aging, rich grandfather, and the grandkids who are unwittingly […]

A Little Bit of a Fleeting Feeling

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

February 28, 2019 by Lisa Bee 1 Comment

I foolishly left the library book I was working my way through at work, and wouldn’t be back for at least a week, so I looked for something that seemed like it would be easy breezy to hold me over until we were reunited again. I chose We Were Liars, which ended up being a quick and not too difficult read, fun at times but also emotional. I can’t say that I totally connected with it, however, and I wasn’t entirely sold on the ending: […]

“We are liars. We are beautiful and privileged. We are cracked and broken.”

we were liars by E. Lockhart

November 6, 2018 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

Continuing my unintentional trend of books about rich people in vacation homes: We Were Liars a story about a Kennedy-esq family, the Sinclairs, as told by the unreliable narrator Cadence (Cady) Sinclair Easton. “I suffer migraines. I do not suffer fools.” Two summers ago Cady, then fifteen, suffered some sort of accident that has left her suffering from amnesia and migraines. Prior to the accident Cady and her cousins shared happy summers at their family’s private island. Cady, the oldest grandchild in the Sinclair dynasty, is particularly […]
