Of course I liked these Bowen romances, they’re Bowen romances

December 30, 2015 by yesknopemaybe 1 Comment

Blonde Date: I can’t deny that this was a pretty adorable aside in The Ivy Years series. I wasn’t going to bother with it because short stories and novellas aren’t really my thing, but I was convinced by all the people who loved it. Katie, a freshman, is still adjusting and trying to find a place to belong at college. She’s pledging a sorority and has dated a few athletes, but due to a humiliating experience with one of them, she’s feeling a little unsteady. […]

Re-reading Rainbow.

December 30, 2015 by narfna 3 Comments

[I originally reviewed this book for CBR5. My review can be found HERE.] So I gave into my baser impulses and dove back into my very first Rainbow Rowell book again for the first time since I read it back in February 2013. Audible is the devil and had a $5 sale a couple of months ago, and this was up in there, so I bought it. It was only a matter of time before I gave in. Happy to report this book is just […]

Yet another enjoyable Bowen romance

December 15, 2015 by yesknopemaybe 3 Comments

Part of the reason I liked The Year We Fell Down so much is that it felt so realistic and relatable. The Year We Hid Away definitely stretched the boundaries of realistic, but at least the characters were still believable in how they dealt with their individual situations and fell for each other. I really liked both of the characters and that always goes a long way to making a romance lovable. Scarlet, previously Shannon, is escaping the nightmare of her family situation via her […]

Imperfect Courtney Milan, Is Still Courtney Milan

December 11, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 18 Comments

Courtney Milan is the best, the very best, romance writer currently publishing, but she is not perfect and Once Upon a Marquess is a delightfully imperfect novel. Her trademark elements – eloquence, unexpected romantic moments, family politics, deciding for oneself who one will be – are here, they just don’t come together quite as successfully as they have in some of her previous efforts. The first book in her new Worth Saga, Milan is laying a lot of groundwork and she is mostly successful in […]

This wonderful romance is currently FREE

December 10, 2015 by yesknopemaybe 5 Comments

So many cannonballers have raved about this romance series that I had to see what all the fuss was about. So glad I gave it a chance! I’m picky about romance, especially contemporary novels, but Bowen is a thoughtful writer who quickly drew me into the relationship between Corey and Adam. It’s Corey’s first year at Harkness College (basically a stand-in for Yale or Harvard) and she’s still dealing with a hockey accident that left her paralyzed less than a year ago. She was supposed […]

“It’s only through sheer force and luck that she’s yet to take over the world.”

December 1, 2015 by NTE 9 Comments

When I heard there was a new Bridgerton book coming out next year, I immediately added it to my TBR pile.  And then decided I needed to take a break from all the new stuff I was reading and do an immediate series re-read.  In case you don’t read historical romance, the Bridgerton family is the star of a series of books written by Julia Quinn, and many of the books are considered some of the best in the genre.  When I want to get […]

I was agog after reading that sentence. Could not read on for five minutes. I mean, wtf.

“Skin covered finger bones”—that’s hilarious. This was a very satisfying review.
