A nice predictable ride

January 26, 2016 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

And now starts my Cannonball goal of reading books that I already have in my house! And I happen to have a bunch of Pride and Prejudice “sequels.” For those of you who don’t know, Pride and Prejudice “sequels” are all just fanfictions that happened to get published. (Thanks, expired copyright and fair use!) This was a nice light read. I blew through it in about 3 hours. There were no big surprises (especially for a reader of fanfiction), but there were also no big […]

The Fornicating Fast and the Furious

January 25, 2016 by PattyKates 3 Comments

Katie: Sebring, contrary to what the title might lead you to believe, is not about a car. Instead, it’s about two lost souls who find redemption in each other. Patty: Two souls who have lots and lots of sex. But never in a car. And the redemption thing Katie said. Katie: I can’t believe I practically waxed poetic about a KA novel. A breakdown of some sort may be in progress. Patty, why do those men in white coats have nets? Patty: I’m just glad […]

A marriage of convenience story done right

January 21, 2016 by Malin 2 Comments

4.5 stars Ildiko is a human woman, the less than favoured niece of the Gauri king. To cement an important political alliance she’s been promised in marriage to Prince Brishen of Bast-Haradis, a Kai warrior and the younger son to the ruthless ruling couple. Humans and Kai, for all that they share similar anatomical traits are very different, both in looks and cultural values. The Kai have black, unreadable eyes, sharp features, grey skin, long claws and a mouth full of sharp fangs and are […]

“Welcome to fucking Wonderland” or, Adventures in Mathmagic Land

January 20, 2016 by crystalclear 5 Comments

Our adventures take place in a slightly dystopian future, where some people can tap into extra parts in their brains and gain X-men-like powers.  The people who have strong powers are called Greater-Thans, because they can access more than 10% of their brains at once.  Your “integration” level is the percentage of your brain you can use.  Normal people can only access 10% or less, so they are called Fractions, for a fraction of 10% (which doesn’t make sense to me, but whatever.)  Powers include […]

A Stalker with a Heart of Gold and a Perfect Dead Wife (This Book has It All)

January 19, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

I realized I had a few more Liane Moriarty books to check off my list to be a completionist– having just finished The Last Anniversary last week, I think I’m down to just one book left.   And that’s sad because I can’t say that I loved this book, i’m really hoping that my last book will be better and give me a little reminder of what I loved from her other books.  Because this one?  I  just felt majorly perplexed by it. We start […]

All in the family

January 18, 2016 by PattyKates 10 Comments

Patty: Confession time. I picked this one based on one fact and one fact only: a reviewer wrote “LUVD it!” and I choked on one of the M&M’s I was eating because “LUVD”? SERIOUSLY? So I jumped on my prejudice wagon and told Katie that I felt this one was RIPE for snark and gifs. But things didn’t work out quite how I expected… Katie: Shaw, our heroine, is pretty much perfect. Smart, excellent student, wealthy, polite, kind to children and old people (actually, I […]

I was agog after reading that sentence. Could not read on for five minutes. I mean, wtf.

“Skin covered finger bones”—that’s hilarious. This was a very satisfying review.
