Countless dreams, countless nightmares, one eerie mystery

Nightmare Hunter #1: A Graphic Novel by Brady Smith

April 9, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I was looking at my online readers and found one for Nightmare Hunter #1: A Graphic Novel written and illustrated by Brady Smith. Due early April 2025, I almost waited to read it as the cover was not completely “grabbing me” and I was not sure it would be something I liked. It felt as if it would be too “out there,” trying too hard to be funny, going with the “gross out” and frankly, somewhat dumb and not funny, so-called humor. Instead we get […]

Not “believe” but “acknowledge.”

The Paranormal Ranger: A Navajo Investigator’s Search for the Unexplained by Stanley Milford, Jr.

April 1, 2025 by Halbs 3 Comments

Stanley Milford, Jr., a retired law enforcement officer, is the perfect guy to write a book like The Paranormal Ranger. Rather than coming across as a showman or a snake oil salesman, Milford is unassuming, compassionate, logical, humble, multicultural. Perhaps most importantly, he is credible. That makes The Paranormal Ranger worth reading for anyone interested in things that happen on the borders of the explainable. Milford is the son of a mother raised Baptist and a father raised more in First Nations traditions. Therefore, Milford […]

“fear is an anchor, but it’s also a bridge”

The Haunting of Room 904 by Erika T. Wurth

March 19, 2025 by narfna 2 Comments

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC. It hasn’t affected the contents of my review. I’m going to keep reading this author’s books as long as I like the premises, because she is improving as a writer as she goes. There are still things in here that ultimately meant I couldn’t bump this up to four stars (dear lord, the sex scene*) because this simply just isn’t as good as books that I have rated four stars in the past. But her ideas […]

Murder Makes for Strange Bedfellows

A New Lease on Death by Olivia Blacke

December 7, 2024 by Pooja Leave a Comment

When Ruby impulsively moves to Boston, she’s glad to get a fully furnished apartment for a decent rate. She does not even mind that the previous inhabitant committed suicide – though those views may change when she realizes that Cordelia is still hanging around, and keenly interested in the murder of a neighbor. Say ‘an unlikely crime-solving duo’ in application to a cozy mystery, and I will be there in a flash. Also, roommates of all stripes can be tricky, so I was curious how […]
