Countless dreams, countless nightmares, one eerie mystery

Nightmare Hunter #1: A Graphic Novel by Brady Smith

April 9, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I was looking at my online readers and found one for Nightmare Hunter #1: A Graphic Novel written and illustrated by Brady Smith. Due early April 2025, I almost waited to read it as the cover was not completely “grabbing me” and I was not sure it would be something I liked. It felt as if it would be too “out there,” trying too hard to be funny, going with the “gross out” and frankly, somewhat dumb and not funny, so-called humor. Instead we get […]

Dark magic

Muted: Volume 1 by Miranda Mundt

February 10, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I almost skipped reading Muted: Volume 1 by Miranda Mundt. It looks too “girly” and maybe even a bit too graphic in the “thriller/horror” elements. And before I go much farther into the review: TRIGGERS include, but are not limited to: bullying, child death, parent death, fire, death, blood, a form of self-harm, form of racism towards other classes of witches, fantasy elements and mental abuse. And even though the cover made me iffy about reading things, I did finally “pick up” the online reader.  […]

Finding home

Brownstone by Samuel Teer and Marina Julia

November 5, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Brownstone by Samuel Teer and Marina Julia was not what I expected. In many ways it was better, but also maybe not as strong as I had hoped. It was an interesting mixture of thoughts, feelings, actions and events. So much is going on, but nothing is ever really “perfectly” solved. Which is the point. There might not be a Happily Ever After, but you can get a Happy (Most of the Time) Together.  The artwork is simple, but full at the same time. The […]

Forward and Backwards

Flipping Forward Twisting Backward by Alma Fullerton

June 28, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When I say Flipping Forward Twisting Backward by Alma Fullerton has a classic feeling story with a little bite, I mean the story might feel a bit “old hat” in today’s themes that are a bit more mature, or “updated.” What I mean is that this book feels like something I would have read from ages (at least 8) to a (younger) 12.  And when I was growing up, there were the Big Four Themes. The first was divorce, the second a friend having diabetes, the […]

Third Time Isn’t Always A Charm

Teen Killers V03 Teen Killers At Large by Lily Sparks

The Fourth Closet: Five Nights at Freddy’s (Five Nights at Freddy’s Graphic Novel #3) by Christopher Hastings.

March 1, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I took a two week staycation recently where I was able to read about a dozen books. Some were short, but a few had a little kick to them. Such as Teen Killers At Large V03. The Teen Killers Club series Lily Sparks created a modern day Bonnie and Clyde, with kill switches implanted in the necks of people, hackers, billionaires, rough family dynamics, and a bunch of killers under the age of 18. This novel was probably the weakest of the three only because […]

Five Nights at Freddy’s V01 The Silver Eyes by Scott Cawthon and Kira Breed-Wrisley

Five Nights at Freddy’s V02 The Twisted Ones by Scott Cawthon and Kira Breed-Wrisley

February 9, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am not a Five Nights at Freddy’s fan. I picked up a graphic novel a few years ago because I was curious about what it was about, but found out later that it was not the “real Freddy” but Goosebump-like stories about things that were spooky. Then recently, I picked up Five Nights at Freddy’s V02 The Twisted Ones in graphic novel form. Of course, I picked up book two and not one, but I thought since I knew I had read something  that […]
