I’d hang out with Bigfoot around a campfire. He seems like a cool dude.

This is a fun little novella/short story collection set in the Dresdenverse. Three linked short stories are included here, taking place at varying times throughout Harry’s history. “B is for Bigfoot” takes place after Fool Moon, “I Was a Teenage Bigfoot” occurs after Dead Beat, and “Bigfoot on Campus” is sandwiched between Turn Coat and Changes, so the Harry in this collection is the Harry from Before, still working as a wizard PI. All in all, I found this book to be a fun, light […]

Rainbow Rowell meets Star Wars.

April 10, 2016 by narfna 6 Comments

So first, funny story. I’m sure many of you have similar ones, but I’mm’a share anyway. I ordered my copy of this book from Book Depository. I paid $4.18, for shipping I assumed, since World Book Day books are free. I was fine with this. I waited weeeeeks for my copy to get here, as it was coming from the UK; luckily a friend with a similar problem sent me a copy by mail so I got to read this before my copies arrived. Yes, […]

A great addition to the Throne of Glass Series

March 24, 2016 by KatSings Leave a Comment

“Life isn’t easy, no matter where you are. You’ll make choices you think are right, and then suffer for them.”  The Assassin’s Blade – Review on KatsCannon This review is my longest to date, I believe, and filled with spoilers for people who haven’t read any of Throne of Glass. Looking through it, there’s really only spoilers about Sam, and some hints of spoilers about later things. But if you are worried about any spoilers, just skip this one. Just know that these novellas are awesome […]

The Expanse novellas aren’t just a money grab.

The Churn “To go from an unregistered birth such as his to having any power and status at all was an achievement as profound as it was invisible.” Before he was the engineer on the Rocinante, Amos Burton lived in Baltimore. A product of prostitution himself, he spent his childhood in sexual slavery, before being rescued by the woman who would essentially become his step-mother. This novella takes place about twenty years before the main events of the series, during a time when the organized […]

Perfect little historical romance novella.

July 10, 2015 by narfna 5 Comments

A couple of weekends ago some friends and I had a girl’s weekend at a hotel and I spent the morning reading at the pool. My friends all made fun of me when I busted this out, but I don’t even care. It was really cute. (None of them read romance novels, so I’m really not sure what they thought when they saw this sucker. Probably lots of things that were mostly wrong.)* *Oh my God. I just had the weirdest urge to interview all […]

Two novellas and a short story.

June 17, 2015 by narfna Leave a Comment

I really, really like Diana Gabaldon’s Lord John Grey novels, but this collection of shorter stories fell a little bit flat for me. I think what I like most about these books is the character work she does alongside the various mysteries, and there really just wasn’t room for any of that in this short of a format. I think there’s a reason she normally gravitates toward longer books as a writer. (Sidenote: I’m currently reading the second LJG novel and I think it’s hilarious that it’s considered […]
