Give this little sapphic sasquatch book a shot!

Patricia Wants to Cuddle by Samantha Allen

This was weird and I kind of loved it. After seeing this cover I absolutely needed to read it, and that just goes to show you that sometimes you CAN judge a book by its cover. But before I get to what I liked about the book, I do want to nitpick a little, mostly with the marketing. This book is being billed as a “horror comedy” and while it’s most definitely horror, I don’t think it’s comedy. Unless you count satire as a subgenre […]

So you want to live off the grid in a smart home that does everything for you?

Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre by Max Brooks

September 5, 2022 by ingres77 3 Comments

Told in a similar style to Brooks’ previous book, World War Z, Devolution recounts the massacre of a small, isolated eco-centric community in rural Washington State. Told predominantly through diary entries by Kate Holland, we learn about the community, their ecological goals, and how they handle the devastating volcanic eruption of Mt. Rainier. Cut off from neighboring communities and forgotten about because of the natural disaster, some residents begin trying to become self-sufficient while awaiting rescue. As they try making their homes more energy efficient […]

Messin’ with Squatch

Devolution by Max Brooks

I loved World War Z. While the movie was fine, it was not the book that I read and loved. This is a much darker, more horror version that focuses a grisly Bigfoot massacre in Washington state. The audiobook is read by an outstanding cast led by Judy Greer as the protagonist. It follows the same style as World War Z in that it is a collection of journal entries interspersed with news stories and interviews. The main difference between this book and WWZ is […]

I’d hang out with Bigfoot around a campfire. He seems like a cool dude.

This is a fun little novella/short story collection set in the Dresdenverse. Three linked short stories are included here, taking place at varying times throughout Harry’s history. “B is for Bigfoot” takes place after Fool Moon, “I Was a Teenage Bigfoot” occurs after Dead Beat, and “Bigfoot on Campus” is sandwiched between Turn Coat and Changes, so the Harry in this collection is the Harry from Before, still working as a wizard PI. All in all, I found this book to be a fun, light […]
