More Cookbooks I’ve Been Perusing

Nadiya’s Kitchen: Over 100 Simple, Delicious Family Recipes by Nadiya Hussain

Easy Gourmet: Awesome Recipes Anyone Can Cook by Stephanie Le

December 17, 2021 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

I’m grouping these two together because they both fulfill the Reading Women Challenge task 4: Cookbook by a woman of color. I own one and borrowed the other, I’ve cooked from both (although no pictures this time – sorry!) and I feel each is a three star book for me, for similar reasons. Without further ado… Nadiya’s Kitchen After having fallen in love with Nadiya and her outstanding bakes on the Great British Bake Off (Great British Baking Show in the U.S.) and placing her […]

Second One’s the Charm I guess

Mary Berry Foolproof Cooking by Mary Berry

February 28, 2021 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I mentioned in a previous review that my mother uncovered a stack or previously misplaced Christmas presents intended for Christmas 2018 and/or 2019. This stack comprised of about 5-6 cookbooks. Here now are my thoughts on the second book in the pile, Mary Berry: Foolproof Cooking. Going by the price sticker, this appears to have been on a clearance shelf like book 1 that I didn’t love, but this one deserves that a bit less. Basically, I might actually try some of these recipes. The […]

Mary Berry Food May Not Be For Me

Mary Berry Everyday by Mary Berry

February 14, 2021 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

So fair warning, this is a cookbook review but I have little intention of trying many of the recipes. As I was posting my notes on Goodreads, I glanced at the top review listed, and the reviewer made a point I absolutely agree with; to paraphrase, the title Mary Berry Everyday was slightly misleading in that quite a few of the recipes aren’t exactly everyday by a lot of contemporary standards, at least as defined by me. I’ve tried a lot of Mary Berry baking […]

Insightful, Honest, and chock full of Double Entendres

Spectacles by Sue Perkins

April 20, 2017 by faintingviolet 3 Comments

I have a lady crush on Sue Perkins. I do not feel that this is an unheard of situation. I was introduced to her via Ale, who was watching the series Supersizers Go/Supersizers Eat from the BBC2 all about food history (it is available on Hulu and YouTube… offf you go). We LOVE food history. This lead to my comfort television becoming watching Sue and Giles drink their way through terrible food. The next great epoch in my Sue fandom was a late to the […]
