Daredevil Season 3?

April 1, 2016 by Halbs 2 Comments

I have to preface this review by saying that Daredevil is on my Mount Rushmore of comic characters. He’s my guy. By day I’m an attorney and a person of faith, so I’m really into Matt Murdock’s worldview and how he wrestles with the balance of law, God, and justice. (If anyone cares, my other favorites are Moon Knight, Batman, and Booster Gold.) In a recent discussion of Netflix’ Daredevil series, someone online recently nudged me to Frank Miller’s Born Again, which collects  a story arc […]

A little Cannonball housekeeping, and a 5 star comic.

March 28, 2016 by Blingle Bells 3 Comments

Before I get down to this review, I have a little housekeeping to take care of. I want to let you guys know that I’m going to start adding a content warning to My reviews. A friend of mine who is a good and sensitive soul recently pointed out that the phrase “trigger warning” could itself be upsetting to someone who has experienced gun violence, and besides, I think that phrase takes us all back to Livejournal in 2002 a little too much. And maybe […]

I just wasn’t into this multi-Doctor meet-up :(

March 9, 2016 by narfna Leave a Comment

I don’t remember where I heard about this comic, just that I did, and immediately reserved it at my library. Watching the 50th Anniversary special a couple of years ago was one of the best fictional experiences I’ve ever had, so I was looking to recreate the feeling a little. Alas, this comic does not manage to convey the feeling of a Doctor Meet-Up, and honestly for me it didn’t even convey “Doctor Who.” I suppose if this had been a TV episode or even […]

Bad Feet

February 28, 2016 by Halbs Leave a Comment

Dancer is a trade paperback collection of Nate Edmondson’s five part series of the same name. It was published by Image in 2012. In the first chapter, a grizzled old American and his Irish ballerina girlfriend are chased by police and an assassin. The assassin, it turns out, looks an awfully lot like the grizzled old American. On paper, Dancer sounds like a fantastic book. Image has been on fire, lately, Edmondson is working on major books like Punisher and Black Widow, and the premise is […]

Growing up in war – a surprisingly delightful read!

February 17, 2016 by tillie 3 Comments

So people have been raving about this book for years and, as per usual, I am so late to the station that the train has already traversed the planet and come all the way back to drop its passengers off. It wasn’t until a friend literally pressed the book into my hand and commanded me to read it that I finally did. This time I should’ve gotten on the train sooner. So why didn’t I? Well people kept raving about the book, but every time […]

I’ve Got Ramen Noodles Coming Out My Nose: Jessica Jones on the Page

February 7, 2016 by silverdahler Leave a Comment

My husband picked up the first volume of Jessica Jones because we had watched the Netflix show and enjoyed it greatly (aside from me having Kilgrave nightmares, but I guess that just means I was invested, right?). If you’re moving from show to comics, there are substantial differences between this first book and the world of the show—without spoiling anything, her relationship with Luke Cage is different, Malcolm is very different, Carol Danvers is Trish (to some extent), Kilgrave is nowhere to be found (for […]
