CBR Bingo: Justice – This whole book is about the Good Guys (TM) seeking the identities of those who set the zombies free in the last book, averting disaster, and trying to get justice the wrongs that have been done. Spoilers for ZomRomCom ahead. We met Gwen in the tail end of ZomRomCom. She’s is a pretty okay oracle, but her visions tend to be quite small. Until she has a head-splitting vision of the end of the world, even after the zombie apocalypse has […]

Flirting with Disaster: Hurricane season, but romantic

Flirting with Disaster by Naina Kumar

CBR Bingo: Summer – The book takes place presumably during the summer because it’s hurricane season. But, maybe I don’t know enough about when hurricane season is or I’m already forgetting details that were directly mentioned in the book. I found this author through another reviewer here on Cannonball Read. I’ve been tearing through Romance and Romantasy with mixed results. So, when I saw a promising review for this author, I popped her books on my library holds list. This one came through first, and […]

CBR Bingo: What I have left is season, I can’t think of a way to shoehorn this into that so we’re just calling this one my Free square–which means, yes, a completed bingo card!!! Since bingo came out AND I decided I needed to get back on this reading horse, I’ve written every review within 24 hours (12, really) of finishing a book AND committed to finishing another two off my back log (on average–one time I did four and then only wrote two the […]

CBR Bingo: Joker, in that way about how the court jester can stand and laugh at everyone? I just feel like the book has that vibe, where everything is just circus antics and Astrid is watching her life collapse around her. A gift from my lovely friend Eunice, a reminder that life can toss you kindred spirits in many interesting ways (I grumpily assumed she was responsible for my drain backing up, got her number from her lease manager, stomped up to complain and promptly […]

a re-read of a play before a once-in-a-lifetime viewing

Copenhagen by Michael Frayn

CBR Bingo: Success, because a lot of the back and forth in this is about Heisenberg defending his successes in the German nuclear program versus Bohr’s more success-y success with The Manhattan Project. SO the story here: I’ve been wanting to see this play performed live for, oh, 10-15 years? I saw Michael Frayn’s Noises Off on Broadway and thought it was absolutely hilarious, looked into what else he’d written, and found this. Read the actual script, fell in love, watched the made-for-TV adaptation starring Daniel Craig […]

not my favorite visit to the world of the white rat, but that’s a bit splitting hairs

CBR Bingo “left” because the Dervish (Dervish? he sometimes is The Dervish and sometimes just Dervish, it’s hard to tell) has been left behind, without his mercenary party, and will keep being so given the whole immortal being hanging out with human meat Having not re-read Swordheart nor Clocktaur Wars Which is to say, unfortunately this book didn’t quite do it for me, at least not as much as the much-belatedly-read Swordheart did. We meet the second of three (?) enchanted swords in this, the second go-around in […]
