CBR Bingo: Justice – This whole book is about the Good Guys (TM) seeking the identities of those who set the zombies free in the last book, averting disaster, and trying to get justice the wrongs that have been done.
Spoilers for ZomRomCom ahead.
We met Gwen in the tail end of ZomRomCom. She’s is a pretty okay oracle, but her visions tend to be quite small. Until she has a head-splitting vision of the end of the world, even after the zombie apocalypse has seemingly been thwarted. Now, she must reunite with one of the proctors from the worst test of her life, twenty years ago in order to rally allies to avert the next apocalypse. Surprisingly, it takes very little arguing to get Hugh on board.
There are a lot of shenanigans straight out of the gate, and there are a lot of absurdities lingering in the margins of the story. They threaten to over take the main plots (1. save the world 2. fall in love). I could manage to stay focused on the core stories, but there were a few near misses. In general, I found this book to be a lot of fun.
Olivia Dade is one of my most read authors this year, tied with T. Kingfisher and Shannon Chakraborty. Do with that knowledge what you will. In general, I enjoy Dade’s writing, and while the epilogue hints at an odd pairing for the next book in this series, I’d still give it a go. I’m enjoying the Supernatural Entanglements series as much or more than the first two (best two) in the Spoiler Alert series and definitely more than Harlot’s Bay.
