CBR Diversions – Dream Casting

June 26, 2020 by teresaelectro 20 Comments

As a lover of all things pop culture, I love to read and watch book adaptations on the big and small screen. Same for The Golden Compass, which was panned by critics, but led to me reading the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. The screen versions captivated me and I simply had to know the literary origins of the characters. When I read a particularly engaging novel, […]

Book Club Discussion: The Future is Queer!

June 19, 2020 by faintingviolet 19 Comments

The time has arrived, I’ve been looking forward to The Future is Queer book club since we hatched the idea late last year. What better way to celebrate Pride than to focus on some speculative fiction by and about LGBTQ folks. Whether you read one or all four of our options, I hope you find something below that sparks your interest so we can continue to enjoy talking about books together. On to the boilerplate: ground rules remain the same as they always have. For […]

Reminder! The Future is Queer #CannonBookClub is Coming Soon!

April 14, 2020 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

We’re a little more than two months out from our next book club on June 19th and 20th. For our June book club  we’ll be celebrating Pride Month the Cannonball way with a The Future is Queer book club focusing on speculative and science fiction written by queer authors and/or featuring queer characters.  Since the world has gone into a more protective mode in response to our current pandemic, books might be a little harder to come by, or you may have found your reading […]

Discussion Topics: A Sherlock Retelling

September 9, 2019 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

Earlier this year we voted on which Classic with many retellings to use for our second and third Book Clubs of 2019. Arthur Conan Doyle’s A Study in Scarlet won and now you, dear Cannonballers, are able to choose any updated version of the Sherlock story to discuss with us in two short weeks. It can be a straight modernization, or a graphic novel, possibly even a gender-swapped version set in space, or a work of non-fiction. Whatever your choice, we’ll be back here discussing […]
