Goldie Vance The Hotel Whodunit by Lilliam Rivera

Goldie Vance volume 1 by Hope Larson

December 12, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I read the Goldie Vance novel, The Hotel Whodunit, before the graphic novel Goldie Vance volume 1 (though based on the comics) because the novel was due before the graphic novel at the library. However, I do not think I would have liked or disliked any differently if I had read in reverse. Both stories are a combination of Nancy Drew, Harriet the Spy and (from what I understand), Veronica Mars. I also got a bit of Archie Comics, along with a dash of the […]

Can’t a Girl Just Make a Living?

July 1, 2017 by Emmalita 1 Comment

Kate Leth continues the adventures of Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat. Patsy just wants to get her life together and avoid the big fights. She’s Avenged and she’s Defended and now she wants to keep her head down and live a life. That’s hard to do when her childhood frenemy is making problems for her and Civil War II is going on. I love Kate Leth’s Patsy Walker. She’s warm and bright, but not chirpy and naive. Patsy’s sweetness is tempered by by the sadness and […]

Patsy and Jessica, Starting Over

June 11, 2017 by Emmalita 1 Comment

In the Netflix Jessica Jones series, Patsy Walker and Jessica are best friends and foster sisters. In Patsy Walker, A.K.A Hellcat! and Jessica Jones: Alias, they don’t even know each other, yet. Despite the years, writers, artists and tones separating them, they have a lot in common. Beyond the superficial of both being super powered, they are two women with traumatic pasts trying to start over and move on. As you can tell from the cover, Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat is not gritty. It’s fun, but […]

Finishing CBR on a triple cannonball and a great graphic novel.

December 30, 2016 by bonnie 8 Comments

This is it! My last review of 2016. I wanted to at least get a triple Cannonball, if I couldn’t repeat my quadruple from 2015, and I wanted to end on a strong note. Thankfully, this review achieves both of these goals. I don’t mind when graphic novels about superheroes are dark and serious. But sometimes, you just want to have a little fun. You want to smile and laugh and enjoy some goofy hijinks. When I had heard raves for Noelle Stevenson’s Lumberjanes, I […]
