Opposites attract

Bride by Ali Hazelwood

February 12, 2026 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I realize that Ali Hazelwood does not write perfect books, but I find them highly entertaining and I usually go out of my way to read them. However, I’ve never had much interest in paranormal romance novels with vampires, werewolves, and the like. So, when I first heard that Hazelwood was branching out of her normal STEM romance novels, I figured I would skip them. But then I ran out of things to read, and I decided they were worth a try after all. I […]

The Halifax Hellions

Margo, you couldn’t be good if your life depended upon it. You are a walking hurricane.

The Halifax Hellions by Alexandra Vasti

February 11, 2026 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

A few years ago I started hearing about some fantastic self published historical romance novellas by a new author, Alexandra Vasti, In Which Margo Halifax Earns her Shocking Reputation and In Which Matilda Halifax Learns the Value of Restraint. Naturally, I acquired them, plus a third one, In Which Winnie Halifax is Utterly Ruined. I bought them, but because of brain things, I never read them. The first two have been collected in one volume, The Halifax Hellions, which is being released next week. I’m […]

Hallie’s Rules for a Recovering Romantic

Please read Jessica Lewis!

Hallie’s Rules for a Recovering Romantic by Jessica Lewis

February 8, 2026 by LB Leave a Comment

I’ve loved Jessica Lewis’s books since her debut, Bad Witch Burning, and each new release just further cements how much I love her books and stories. After Nav’s book last year, I knew I needed to and could not wait to get my hands on Hallie’s book, and this was so good!! Hallie feels like she’s a failure and not good enough, especially after a few of her exes have treated her poorly or denigrated her, plus the pressure from her parents to be The […]

Stolen in Death by J. D. Robb

February 7, 2026 by katie71483 7 Comments

Stolen in Death is J. D. Robb’s 62nd installment in her long running In Death series. To give you perspective about how long she’s been writing these, the first installment, Naked in Death was published in 1995. Bill Clinton was still in his first term as President, women everywhere were listening to Alanis Morisette’s Jagged Little Pill on repeat, and Clueless made yellow plaid iconic. At this point, J. D. Robb has a definite formula for these books. Something terrible happens to someone, Lt. Eve […]

(Es)sex and Pirates

Glitterland by Alexis Hall

February 7, 2026 by Zirza Leave a Comment

Ash Winters is one of those characters you find in a lot of books: the Failed Male Writer. Once a darling of England’s literary scene, Ash now writes pulpy yet wildly successful thrillers as he battles with crippling depression. Then he meets Darian, frequently described by Ash as a glitter pirate: a male model from Essex. There’s spray tan, nylon and the kind of clothing that pairs glitter with artfully crafted holes. Ash is a snob, so he looks down on Darian, but Darian is […]

A timely book for the upcoming Olympics

The Favorites by Layne Fargo

February 6, 2026 by Sophia 2 Comments

I saw The Favorites (2025) by Layne Fargo on some year-end, best-of lists and decided it was worth a try. It is a story loosely based on Wuthering Heights, written in the style of Daisy Jones & The Six, and based on the the competitive sport of ice dancing. Pairs figure skating was one of my favorite Olympic sports to watch back in the day, so I figured a book about ice dancing could be interesting. Katarina Shaw was obsessed with ice dancing ever since she was a kid, […]

on A family can be two sisters, one of those sister’s descendants, two other sisters, a magic whale, a sentient island, an omnipotent museum, and academic papers
Made a mistake - there's no 'the' in the title. And the book had me at the cover too.
