Sally, I loved you ’til the end, but I still like you

January 12, 2014 by Sophia 1 Comment

On my second try reading Walden by Thoreau, I made it about a 1/4 of the way before giving up and desperately perusing my Kindle for anything else to read. That’s when I started reading The Adventures of Sally (1921) by P.G. Wodehouse. The Adventures of Sally was a book I’d picked up shortly after buying my Kindle, when I discovered the large number of free classics available on Amazon. I’d never heard of P.G. Wodehouse before but he had positive reviews and it’s hard […]

Dreamy Italian Romance

January 11, 2014 by Sara_Tonin00 Leave a Comment

“Dreamy” is an appropriate adjective for this wisp of novel. It is misty & poetic, with lovel moments. But it lacked the substance I like to round out my poetry & romance. Loosely based on Pellegrino Turri’s invention of the typewriter – very loosely – this novel focuses on the young recipient of that typewriter, the countess Carolina. A little Romance to start the CBR6

January 7, 2014 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

So, after a less than pleasant reading experience of Northanger Abbey, in which I never should have read the publisher’s note at the beginning as it ruined the plot of the novel for me and kept me from really sinking in to the narrative, at the end of last year (I couldn’t manage to get it finished and reviewed for CBR5, meaning I fell short of my revised goal, only 29/30) I decided that a quick read – a restart button – was in order. […]

webelos8’s CBR VI Review 1: “Something About Her” by Jeannie Ruesch

January 7, 2014 by webelos8 Leave a Comment

Since I totally blew it in CBR V, I’m going to try to redeem myself this year. I submitted for a half cannonball, and only reviewed 8. 🙁 I WILL SUCCEED!
