I’m going as slow as societal change this go round.

Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen

May 1, 2015 by Robyn Robotron Leave a Comment

It is absolutely no wonder white Americans are so quick to blame people of color for the struggles in their lives, considering what we’re taught in schools.  (Before anyone decides to cry out “not all white people”, you should know that I’m white, so I’m aware that not all white people think this way, just enough to make it a big fucking problem with our society.)  (Also, there’s a link in that first sentence, in case you can’t tell.)

Last train to dementia.

Raising Steam by Sir Terry Pratchett

February 27, 2015 by Robyn Robotron 1 Comment

My father’s mother and my husband’s maternal grandmother both passed away last year.  They suffered from dementia and Alzheimer’s, respectively.  It was just as painful for me to watch my grandmother waste away into a shadow of her former self as it was to have the same conversations with my husband’s grandmother knowing she would never know me for more than minutes at a time.  I got that same sadness to a lesser degree while reading Sir Terry Pratchett’s latest Discworld book.

Beautiful girl, lovely dress, high school smiles, oh yes.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

February 14, 2015 by Robyn Robotron Leave a Comment

It’s a good book, but I wish it didn’t have to go there.  There is a spoiler involved in this review, but I put it at the end, so you should be safe as long as you heed my warning. (That first sentence is a link, by the way.  I don’t know why they don’t show up as such on the main page, I seem to remember them showing up last year.)

Here I go again on my own.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy

January 16, 2015 by Robyn Robotron 1 Comment

Going down the only Road I’ve ever known! I know, I know, that was super cheesy.  But, if you’d read this book, you’d want to find some sort of humor, too. (Apparently, you have to click through to view just this post to click on the link to my review.)

Fables Encyclopedia by Jess Nevins

December 31, 2014 by Robyn Robotron 6 Comments

It’s a Fables encyclopedia. But, more importantly, I made it!!  I almost didn’t think I was going to.  This has been wonderful fun.  I’m definitely signing up for next year, except I’m only committing to a half Cannonball.  With a new baby on the way, and how close I came to the wire on this one, I don’t think I can make it to 52 next year.  Thanks to everyone for the interesting reviews and to MsWas for keeping this ship afloat.  I hope everyone […]

The most dangerous game. . . in space!

Doctor Who: Hunter's Moon by Paul Finch

December 31, 2014 by Robyn Robotron Leave a Comment

Yes, it’s another Doctor Who novel.  And this one manages to have the Doctor, Amy and Rory on the cover.  Poor Rose.
