The title that might be longer than the book

Scribble Scrabble: A Board Book of First Words and Shapes for Growing Minds (A Wishy Washy Sequel) by Tabitha Paige M.S. CCC-SLP and Paige Tate & Co. (Producer)

August 17, 2026 by BlackRaven 1 Comment

Combining the usual suspect shapes (circle, square) with more unusual ones (diamond, hexagon) Scribble Scrabble: A Board Book of First Words and Shapes for Growing Minds (A Wishy Washy Sequel) is a fun combination. Tabitha Paige, M.S., CCC-SLP and Paige Tate & Co. (Producer) made an overall toned story that is sweet, silly, and educational. It is all compacted into a smaller picture book that is good for smaller hands. The images are delightful and have a humor that adults can appreciate. I read via […]

Whimsical

My Magic Dress by Kayako Nishimak and Lisa Wilcut

August 17, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

With the review of My Magic Dress by Kayako Nishimaki and translated by Lisa Wilcut (due March 2027; read via an online reader copy) I have caught up with all the reads I want to review and have them typed up for posting. And it is nice that this last (for now) review is a sweet and cozy book, because I need that. This book, originally from Japan in the late 1960s, didn’t do so well with adults back then. A book for children, that […]

Wuthering Heights: I Read It.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

August 17, 2026 by Fiat.Luxury 3 Comments

I’m trying to fill in the gaps of Classics I Never Read, and I had never read any of the Brontës. What better place to start than Wuthering Heights? If nothing else, it would give me an opportunity to care a little more about the new movie, which looks very pretty. But reader: I hated it. I’m glad I read it, and I love that I have an opinion now, and I get that this is about toxicity and bad choices and enabling and finding […]

The Secret Garden: Classic for a Reason

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

August 17, 2026 by Fiat.Luxury Leave a Comment

I continue my read-aloud campaign with The Secret Garden; in fact, we read the exact same copy that I read as a child. Charming! I’m sure you are familiar with the story: in 1900 or so, Mary Lennox is a sickly, neglected, self-centered, unpleasant 10-year-old in India; her British parents die of cholera. Not great! She is sent to her uncle at Misselthwaite Manor on the Yorkshire Moors, where she continues to be unpleasant and selfish until forced to GO OUTSIDE. This is, I am […]

CBR Bingo: Dungeons and Drama – Season “It occurs during the Fall season” CBR Bingo: Dragons and Dating – Success “The gaming group is working on becoming successful online streamers” CBR Bingo: Rolls and Rivalries – Left “Knowing your left from your right is fundamental in marching band” I recently had a staycation downtown by myself for a couple days.  As a full-time mom to two teenagers, it was a welcome respite!  I brought several books with me, as one does.  On Wednesday, I found an independent bookstore […]

Water and fish

Fish and Water by Gengoroh Tagame

August 15, 2026 by vega-table Leave a Comment

Cbr18 Bingo – And: see title, although I’m not sure why it’s called that though. Maybe because that’s how natural the two characters are together. Fish and Water by Gengoroh Tagame just came out in the US, and even includes non-permission to use the content of the volume for AI. It’s the first time I’ve seen (noticed) an AI training prohibition statement. However, the story is from 2022. And it feels like it. Koji is a freelance writer and the pandemic lockdown didn’t change his […]
