The two Sophies

Tree. Table. Book. by Lois Lowry

September 10, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Lois Lowry, in my reading experience, tends to be “presentation soft, but still deals with the hard stuff. And Tree. Table. Book. does not disappoint.   Lowery deals with family, friendship, bullies, mental and physical health and coming to terms with death. Things build slowly but once the stories that relate to the title come into play (I won’t mention them as I feel it is important to learn about them when our narrator does), things really take off. But up until then, things are slow, […]

When they say Good Boy, do they mean the dog or the kid?

Good Boy: A Graphic Novel by Andy Hirsch

September 10, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Good Boy: A Graphic Novel by Andy Hirsch started out rough for me, but ages (strong) six to 10 will get a kick out of a Dog and His Boy! The story is short, sweet and not a lot of traditional action, but has a few points where things happen. The child of this story is off on his school field trip. But he becomes ill (warning: Vomit) and must stay home. This is not the first time his nerves have gotten this bad. Therefore, […]

Huntng the Haunted

Haunted Comic Club by Josh Tierney, Caitlin Soliman and Frank Cvetkovic

September 10, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The rating for Haunted Comic Club by Josh Tierney, Caitlin Soliman (illustrator), Frank Cvetkovic (letterer) is a four as it is not really a 3 or a solid four, but 3.75 (but we don’t have a .75). The four rating is because kids are going to love it. But I did not like two parts of the story, so I took a bit off. One thing I did not care for is that some characters did not get what they deserved (bullies who bully should […]

I’m liking this publisher

The Vole Who Looked at the Moon by Mila Teras and Nora Surojegin

Imperfectly Perfect Posey: A Wobbly Yoga Story by Lizzie Brooks and Enni Heikura

Meet Reba by Stephanie Wheeler and Annika Chamber

Spinning Wheel Stories, the publisher of No Fish in My Dish and Button Up, Buttercup! by Ted Forsstrom also has three other books. All five were published in July 2026, and read via an online reader copy by moi! This company is perhaps a European company as the contributors come from mostly Finland and England, but a couple people hail from the US. Regardless of their home bases, they created some interesting stories I would like to share with you. First, we have The Vole […]

Button Up, Buttercup! by Ted Forsstrom, Asa Lucander and A.A. Prime

Most people have had at least one pet in their life. I had a few cats (mostly shared as family cats), several fish, tons of rocks and a shared dog with my uncle who was dumb as those pet rocks (the dog, not my uncle; then again as I think about it…) Anyway, if you haven’t had/can’t have or even if you do have/or had, that wouldn’t stop you from reading about pets. Below I found three titles that are about Pets. Some are pets […]

Yes, that Megan Fox

Pretty Boys Are Poisonous: Poems by Megan Fox

September 10, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

For the poetry collection, Pretty Boys Are Poisonous: Poems by Megan Fox I give it a two.  This is one reason why I almost didn’t write a review, I mean, why set myself up for Megan Fox fans to say she’s a genius and what amazing writing and writer she is, and how she is so meaningful? Then I realized, I’ve dealt with a Beyonce fan and believe me they are very intense so I think I can handle Megan Fox’s fans. So, the reason […]
