I’ve been around off and on since the first year of CBR, and it and books have been a constant in my life through multiple moves and a major career change. I live with 3 cats, Dany, Jace and Jorah. Fantasy, specific types of sci-fi, historical fiction (especially mysteries) and romance tend to be my go to genres now a days. An Uncomfortably Honest Memoir/Essay Collection

April 5, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I’ve always liked Gabrielle Union.  I haven’t exactly followed her career, and didn’t even realize she had a television series, but whenever I see her in a preview or realize she is in a movie I am interested in, I always view it as a positive.  I also know she played teenagers for a good portion of her career because she is genetically blessed, and I also thought her story line in Think Like a Man was ridiculous because of all the guys in that […]

If Austen Had Included Sex Scenes, This May Have Been the Result

April 5, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

After seeing several glowing reviews of this novel on the Cannonball blog, and being in need of a new romance author, I ended up picking this one up and quickly following it up with the other two novels of the trilogy.  Despite that, I couldn’t quite figure out how to review this one, because every time I thought of certain things to say, I felt like I was insulting other romance novels which wasn’t my intent.  Several other authors also add complexity to their characters, […]

The Second Happiest Place in the World

April 4, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

After fleeing from the Covenant, Annie ran to Lowryland, a Disney World knock off (Disney exists in this universe, and Lowryland knows it comes in second), since being in large crowds would make it more difficult track her, even by magical means. When Annie arrives in Lowryland, she honestly expects to be fully on her own for the first time in her life, having even sent her Aeslin mice companions, Mindy and Mork of the Lost Colony, to Oregon. Luckily, once she’s hired and in […]

A mystery with a strong appreciation of food and Harrods

April 4, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

The novel starts with Inspector Treadles at a crime scene, happy to be solving crime on his own, away from Holmes and all that goes along with her, only to run into her and Lord Ingram outside the crime scene.  From here, the novel backtracks six days to explain why Holmes and Lord Ingram ended up at a crime scene shortly after police discovery. Lord Bancroft had asked to meet with Charlotte at the end of the last novel, and they have this appointment early […]

When You’re Expecting The Skulls but get Carnivale

April 4, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

After five novels, Antimony “Annie” Price, the youngest Price sibling finally gets to say her piece.  While her older siblings see Antimony as the trap and ambush setting younger sister who has been hanging out at home post high school and playing roller derby, Annie has a rather different view.  She is the good, loyal daughter while Verity craves the spotlight, and as a result got them into their current mess: after battling a snake summoned from an alternate dimension on live TV and revealing […]

Hit Me, Baby, One More Time (Fancy Black Jack means Britney references)

April 4, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I would say the title is reaching a bit with this one since the only dukes that appear are not exactly main characters, but the alliteration is nice, and Alex is definitely portrayed as a bit devilish in the beginning, until the heroine gets to know his true self rather than the front he portrays to the public. In my review of the previous novel, I had made a comment wishing for a few more twists before the happy ending, and this novel certainly delivers […]
