Fred & Marjorie: A Doctor, a Dog, and the Discovery of Insulin by Deborah Kerbel

December 16, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Fred & Marjorie: A Doctor, a Dog, and the Discovery of Insulin by Deborah Kerbel and illustrated by Angela Poon is a graphic novel that is based on the true events that lead to the discovery that would easily save over 100 million people: insulin. There is simple text showing the events of the early 1920s that made it possible to treat type 1 diabetes, or Juvenile diabetes. There are the images that show that before the early 1920s the treatment was starvation and therefore, […]

Love vs. Prejudices

The Lady in Red by Kelly Bowen

December 22, 2019 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I always enjoy Kelly Bowen’s novels so I am not entirely ensure why I haven’t read all her novels yet.  I guess it’s always nice to leave authors for when stumped for a next read.  This novella is considered part of her A Season for Scandal series but also served to introduce her follow on series, The Devils of Dover, with the introduction of the Haverhall School for Young Ladies. Charlotte wants to be an artist but as the daughter of a duke, her family […]

Hit Me, Baby, One More Time (Fancy Black Jack means Britney references)

April 4, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I would say the title is reaching a bit with this one since the only dukes that appear are not exactly main characters, but the alliteration is nice, and Alex is definitely portrayed as a bit devilish in the beginning, until the heroine gets to know his true self rather than the front he portrays to the public. In my review of the previous novel, I had made a comment wishing for a few more twists before the happy ending, and this novel certainly delivers […]

But Is It a Book I’ll Remember?

March 19, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I really enjoyed the first novel in the A Season for Scandal series even if I quickly forgot the name of the author and the novel until I saw a recent review by Malin for the novella. With that reminder, I was finally able to discover the additional novels in the series, and jump back in. Elise deVries was introduced in the previous novel as one of the partners of Chegarre and Associates, a private agency to help the rich deal with their problems discreetly […]
