For you the entire world will still be too little.

Miss Moriarty, I Presume? by Sherry Thomas

December 21, 2022 by Leedock Leave a Comment

This is book 6 in the Lady Sherlock Series. Forge ahead if you are already reading. Stop and grab the first 5 if you have not. Fresh from solving cases and dodging death, Charlotte, Lord Ingram, and Mrs. Watson are “hired” by their nemesis, Moriarty, to check on the welfare of his daughter. Well, more strong-armed than hired, to be honest. Moriarity claims his daughter is under the thrall of a religious cult and is being kept at its compound in a remote seaside town. […]

“The woman was a holy terror: the sweetest face, the pillowiest bosom, and a perspicacity that stripped a man naked in seconds.”

The Hollow of Fear (Lady Sherlock, #3) by Sherry Thomas

This series is so fun. I think this is my favorite one so far, because it did two things. First, the plot hinges on Charlotte/Sherlock saving her dear friend and would-be paramour Lord Ingram from murder charges when his wife turns up dead on his estate in a gruesome fashion. And second, we finally get to see Charlotte in action at crime scenes and investigating herself. She does this by inventing another Holmes brother and dressing up as a man, saying she is both there […]

“And then Sherlock Holmes had turned out to be a woman with loose morals and no remorse.”

A Conspiracy in Belgravia (Lady Sherlock, #2) by Sherry Thomas

September 2, 2022 by narfna 2 Comments

I spent my July 4th holiday off work reading about a fictional British character based on another fictional British character. I read this whole thing in a day, but even if I hadn’t had the day off work, I would have zoomed through it. I just love this series, its whole vibe. I’ve said this before, but I’m so impressed with how Sherry Thomas has managed to create her own sort of chemistry with these characters and these stories, when reimaginings can often feel pretty […]

Charlotte/Lord Ingram? Yes? Yes?

The Luckiest Lady in London by Sherry Thomas

May 27, 2022 by wicherwill 1 Comment

Real talk: after reading this, I’m waiting for the Lady Sherlock spin-off/novella which is nothing but Lord Ingram and Charlotte getting it on. Real-er talk: no, I can’t think of anything BUT getting to see Charlotte explore all of her uninhibited Victorian/Edwardian fantasies. That being said, I was sort of confused to pick this up. Tonally it seems so very different from the works of Thomas that I’ve read, and I’ve actually read quite a few given how many Lady Sherlock books there have been […]

“Miss Holmes smiled. She had dimples. Of course she did—the Good Lord went to ridiculous lengths to make sure that one of the finest minds in existence was housed in a body least likely to be suspected of it.”

A Study in Scarlet Women (Lady Sherlock, #1) by Sherry Thomas

January 7, 2022 by narfna 11 Comments

Oh, this was so close to being my first five star read of the year. If I hadn’t been a little confused by the ending (lots of similar sounding names, and an intricate mystery denouement) it definitely would have been. This is the first book in Sherry Thomas’s Victorian historical mystery series, Lady Sherlock, where Sherlock is a lady. Her name is actually Charlotte, a disgraced young noble lady who is genius level intelligent, and is trying to find a way to make a living […]

Miss Moriarty, I Presume? Cover

Lady Charlotte Holmes continues to be delightful

Miss Moriarty, I Presume? by Sherry Thomas

November 30, 2021 by wicherwill 2 Comments

Sherlock Holmes, as conceived by Arthur Conan Doyle, lasted forever and ever through both short stories and novels, and even one death. It’s definitely a fervent wish of mine that this series does something similar, although (like Doyle) I imagine Thomas will at some point get frustrated with the series… Our formidable Charlotte is at it again, but this time up against an enemy too deadly to underestimate. Moriarty himself has come to visit, with a seemingly thoughtful, heart wrenching request–his only daughter has sequestered […]
