Cozy fantasy and Sci-fi are my self care reads. I love a good magic system and dragons are always welcome. I like my Sci-fi LGBTQ+ positive. YA and Romance fill a sweet spot. And I never underestimate good children's fiction! (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Dome’Loki's Quick Questions interview.)

Dome'Loki's Reviews:

The book, "Under the Whispering Door" by TJ Klune standing next to a wooden snowman.

“Sometimes, death is a blessing, even if we don’t realize it right away.”

Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune

I was gifted Under the Whispering Door Winter Solstice, 2021.  Narfna described it as a ‘warm hug’ in her review and I wanted to save it for when such a book was needed.  Somehow almost a year has passed and it sat on the shelf.  When looking for my next read I swear I could hear the book say, “You should read me before you get more books for this year’s Winter Solstice book exchange”.  The book had a point so I picked it up and […]

The book, "The Queer Principles of Kit Webb" by Cat Sebastian standing in front of a canvas tote bag for the bookstore, Mysterious Galaxy. In the background is a decorated Christmas tree.

Thank you, Mobius_Walker!

Thank you, Mobius_Walker!  Cannonballers are fans of Cat Sebastian and I’m excited to read my first by her.  The tote bag is gorgeous and I look forward to showing off my Mysterious Galaxy pride.  Thank you for supporting my favorite independent bookstore!

If you like Outlander but prefer no rape and more fantasy magic, this is for you!

Wyldwood: The Spiral Pathways series by Tava Baird

November 30, 2022 by Dome'Loki 3 Comments

This completes my first full cannonball since 2019!  A little while back Cannonballer Tava offered up a few free copies of her book Wyldwood.  The description caught my interest and I threw my hat into the ring to get one and I’m glad I did!  Part historical fiction, fantasy, and romance Wyldwood is set in Scotland of 1746, several months after the disaster that was Culloden. Saorsa Macdonald Stuart is the fictional niece of Bonnie Prince Charlie and is on her way to be married against […]

The book, "Guards! Guards!" by Terry Pratchett standing in front of the Dungeons and Dragons Player's Handbook and Monster Manual.

This Discworld book has been recommended for D&D players so I finally checked it out.

Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett

November 30, 2022 by Dome'Loki 2 Comments

Nearly twenty years ago I gave Pratchett’s Discworld books a chance.  I had a long commute and been gifted audiobooks of the first few books in the series.  I listened to about the first three books and then decided they weren’t for me.  They felt gimmicky with a focus on clever ways of saying modern things without using current words.  For some reason, calling popcorn ‘banged grains’ sticks out in my memory as an example.  But over the years I kept seeing the devotion readers […]

The graphic novel, "Transmetropolitan: Lust for Life" by Warren Ellis and others standing next to a completely filled out bingo card.

Can’t think of a title, too excited to announce Bingo #10,11, & 12 – Black Out!

Transmetropolitan volume 2: Lust for Life by Warren Ellis (author), Darick Robertson (penciller), Kim Demulder (inker), Rodney Ramos (inker), Nathan Eyring (colorist), Clem Robbins (letterer)

November 13, 2022 by Dome'Loki 3 Comments

CBR14 Bingo: “Bird” – Because there are birds on the cover and Spider Jerusalem figuratively flips the bird to the world on the regular. Warren Ellis’ “Transmetropolitan” comic series is set in a not terribly distant, messy, chaotic future (far from any idea of a future utopia) with one lone journalist intent on telling the truth, Spider Jerusalem.  As described by a friend, he is “a dirty bastard and a moral vacuum, but you couldn’t have a better friend.”  Through Spider, Ellis gives a blistering […]

The manga, "Spy x Family volume one" by Tatsuya Endo standing next to a nearly complete book bingo card.

A spy, an assassin, and a telepath; meet the Forgers! Bingos #8 & 9!

Spy x Family: volume 1 by Tatsuya Endo

November 12, 2022 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

CBR14 Bingo: “Font” – I love all the different fonts used for sound effects in comics. Spy x Family is written and drawn by Tatsuya Endo.  It’s the story of an elite spy, known only by his handle, Twilight.  He is an agent for an organization in Westalis and master of disguise.  The agency has learned that a far-right group in the country on their Eastern border, Ostania, is wanting to start a war with Westalis.  Twilight is dispatched to discover what the East is […]
