I am counting down the minutes until I go on Christmas vacation. MINUTES. And tonight I came home to a lovely Cannonball Book Exchange surprise. Two kinds of chocolates (one of which has already been sampled), Orbiter, and An Unkindness of Ghosts. All this, and a lovely card. I am so pleased and cannot wait to settle in and enjoy the generosity of ElCicco. Thank you!
Happy QuarterCannonball to me! I was in the library to pick up a the ten ton Oathbringer, and happened across this graphic novel I had not heard of previously. In truth, it’s Colleen Doran’s name that caught my attention first – she is very talented, able to draw and paint in many different styles, and has interesting discussions about art and artists and women in the graphic novel business on Twitter. Each volume in this series has been different, so you really don’t need to read them in any particular order, but this one in particular stands on its own. It’s told from the POV of Spider-Girl, Anya Corazon (who wanted her superhero name to be Araña, but no one could pronounce it properly). It could have ended up cutesy, what with the whole point of the story being that Anya […]
I read Gun Machine, because my husband gave it a strong recommendation and insisted that I would love it. He has fantastic taste in books, an generally if he says I’ll love something he’s bang on. Gun Machine was absolutely no exception. When a shootout claims the life of Detective John Tallow’s partner, he chases the suspect through a building and accidentally stumbles across an apartment filled with guns, each of which was used in an unsolved murder. No one is very happy about the prospect of opening up […]
