Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

October 9, 2025 by Classic 2 Comments

I swear, this is why I can’t read classics, most of them I read, I don’t like or am completely confused about. I only read this for a Bingo square and my other choice has a 10 week hold on it and I didn’t want to spend the money on a book that I may not like. Anyway, here’s my review of Metamorphosis or what I like to call, that dude really turns into a bug and it’s just pages of this? Metamorphosis follows a salesman named Gregor […]

Zombie, Ohio by Scott Kenemore

Zombie, Ohio by Scott Kenemore

October 9, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

I have to say that this was surprisingly good and funny. I won’t lie though, hearing about a zombie eating brains and killing people after a while did start to make me feel a bit squeamish, but I thought Kenemore did a great job with showing a world that has to deal with a sudden zombie outbreak and how terrible the humans and government were in the aftermath. The ending though gives you a clue about what happens next. The only reason why I did […]

The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson

The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson

October 8, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Trigger warning: Animal death.  So this was a weird one. I read elsewhere this book describes the “Big Bang Theory” better than any other supernatural/horror novel and I have to say I agree. It also is very easy with the description of mountains, chasms, and strange beings, to see how this aspired some horror authors such as Lovecraft (still racist). I think though that I would have loved it more if we had any dialogue outside of the two friends, “reading” the mysterious journal written […]

All Hallows by Christopher Golden

All Hallows by Christopher Golden

October 7, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Honestly this is a 3.5 star read for me, but since I don’t like to do half stars, I rounded up to 4. I think that parts of this horror novel works, but I wish we had more explanation for the Cunning Man, Mother, etc. I don’t want an info dump, but some parts of the book felt unfinished and when we get to the end I thought, well heck so we don’t get any explanations? Also after a while, the book just jumped around […]

King Sorrow by Joe Hill

King Sorrow by Joe Hill

October 7, 2025 by Classic 2 Comments

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Trigger warning: The way it’s described it sounds like coercion which to my mind is still rape, but wanted to put a rape trigger warning here for readers due to a plot point with one of the characters. I don’t even know what to say. This is definitely a slog of a book (it’s over 800 pages) and there’s not a lot to say about it even though […]

So Thirsty by Rachel Harrison

So Thirsty by Rachel Harrison

October 6, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Trigger warning: Animal death, cannibalism, and gore. Bless Rachel Harrison for always showing us the folly of bad marriages and toxic friendships. I really did enjoy this book, but thought the ending was so unrealistic and very unsatisfying. I wish Harrison had gone as darker as she had with the ending of The Return. And I think that she didn’t delve enough into Sloane/Naomi’s messed up friendship. That said, I did enjoy this. So Thirsty follows Sloane who is leaving to go out of town […]
