The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith

The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith

It’s weird. I thought I read this book years ago and just realized as I was reading, nope. I think I got the movie mixed up in my head. This is going to be a short review, this was very good. Tom Ripley is a hot mess and you keep waiting for him to get caught, but he does not. I also felt a strange pity for this character because he seems hell-bent on not being thought of as queer, but one wonders if he […]

A Welcome Reunion by Lucinda Berry

A Welcome Reunion by Lucinda Berry

October 15, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

A while ago I just got a bunch of short stories for a discount. I finally read this, by Lucinda Berry, and realized it fit a square that I needed to fill in for a book bingo I am participating in. That said, this was bonkers, and didn’t really work. I never read the longer novel that was part of this series, but have to say that several characters are a mess and the ending was just weird. And also not realistic. A Welcome Reunion, […]

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica, Sarah Moses (Translator)

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

Trigger warning: Rape Not going to lie, if I had read this last year, I would say, no way would the world do something like this, but now in the year of 2025, I doubt there would be any reluctance for people as long as they got their meat. Honestly, not too much to say here. This was a great and terrible read. I also have to say that I was fooled by the character of [redacted]. I thought they were a good person and then […]

Scared Sexy Short Stories

Hot for Slayer by Ali Hazelwood

Falling by Christina Lauren

Spicy Little Curses by J.T. Geissinger

Space Vampire by Ruby Dixon

Beautiful Nightmare by Katee Robert

All My Boyfriends are Monsters by Kimberly Lemming

October 11, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

I’ve been dealing with a bad mood and migraine for about 24 hours so I just decided to read these short stories before getting back into anything longer. All in all, just a 3 for the entire anthology. This anthology is dark Halloween romance. I stupidly assumed dark romance means stories similar to A Court of Thorn and Roses, but this just seems more like, these all take place on Halloween (well I think most of them do except for that space one) and there’s […]

What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher

What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher

October 10, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Wow. I thought this was head and shoulders above the last book in the series. I love the character of Easton, and hearing about Gallacia. The last book, What Feasts at Night just went on and on with not enough explanation for me. I also didn’t really love the ending. What Stalks the Deep though gives us even more development of Easton, we get to follow up with Dr. Denton and the adventure now moves to America, specifically an old mine in West Virginia. I found the overall plot […]

The Scarlet Plague by Jack London

The Scarlet Plague by Jack London

October 10, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

I never knew that Jack London wrote something called The Scarlet Plague and it was futuristic fiction. He wrote this in 1912 and at times during the story I thought about what happened with COVID-19 and what could have happened if we at that time didn’t come together and actually do what we could to contain it. I think that parts of the book though were just confusing at times (random wording occurring). I got the free version of this story so I am sure that was […]
