Strange Houses by Uketsu

Strange Houses by Uketsu

December 5, 2025 by Classic 2 Comments

Well hello, a book that I could not put down and then ended up talking to strangers about when I went out to dinner (yes I take my books with me when I go out, it mostly does not prevent people from chatting with me) and just gushed over. This was 100 percent awesome. You give me a book with a cool premise (see these diagrams of a house, tell me what is strange to you), a dead body, and a lot of hmm could […]

The Rose Field by Philip Pullman

The Rose Field by Philip Pullman

December 4, 2025 by Classic 15 Comments

This was a painful read. I don’t even think I can articulate how bad this was. There was too much going on and just outright stupidity in a few places. I really wish we had the Lyra we came to know in His Dark Materials. Heck, even the first book in the Book of Dust trilogy was good, but then it went off the rails with book #2 and now this. Also the ending was a let-down. Don’t get me started on someone being straight up murderous through […]

When I Kill You by B.A. Paris

When I Kill You by B.A. Paris

November 24, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not impact my rating or review.  I have to say that parts of this story didn’t really work such as the unknown narrator ending each excerpt with ‘when I kill you’, and the lack of chemistry between Nell and Alex. That said, I couldn’t put it down. I won’t lie though, I started to just skim the excerpts by the unknown narrator because I was tired of them. When I Kill You follows a woman […]

The Kill Clause by Lisa Unger

The Kill Clause by Lisa Unger

November 24, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

This was a seasonal mystery/murder novella that I have to say really didn’t land well. Give me a story about assassins’ with a Christmas twist I said. Well it just fell short. I think Unger can do really in your face endings and I think that she could have went there with this one. The ending was wholly unrealistic though which is the main reason why I gave this 3 stars. The Kill Clause follows Paige. Paige we find out is an assassin (think Black Widow) […]

Snake-Eater by T. Kingfisher

Snake-Eater by T. Kingfisher

November 24, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

I thought this was a great showing by T. Kingfisher though the beginning of the book moved a bit too slow and was really surprised this was pushed as horror, I mainly got cozy vibes while reading it (that is not a bad thing). I do hope that we get to see these characters in future works, I loved Selena, Copper, Grandma Billy, Father Aguirre, etc. Snake-Eater follows Selena who we find has left her long-term partner with her dog Copper and a few of her […]

Lucky Tomorrow by Deborah Jiang-Stein

Lucky Tomorrow by Deborah Jiang-Stein

November 20, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. This is a collection of short stories by Deborah Jiang-Stein. The main reason why I just gave the overall collection 5 stars was that although it took me a bit to get used to how she curated this collection, it started to resonate with me after a while. We follow a “main” character so to speak, but some of the other stories were so short that I didn’t […]
