I don’t know what to say about this one outside it wasn’t that great. It’s just a ho-hum novel/3 stars and honestly it’s because of a lot of things that I will go into below that showed why this would be a solid three stars. I hoped that Connelly would shake off whatever is going on in his Ballard books with this one. But unfortunately, I think that this needed more time to marinate and to just have these books be their own thing. Instead, Connelly is so focused on linking all of his novels to the Bosch world. We had to just get Renee Ballard in this one and per usual, one of her cases ends up being a big miss. We have Stil seeming to think that he must be involved in all of the things going on, on Catalina, and off island too. He started really getting on my nerves. And the book ends on a cliffhanger. I really went are you kidding me when I got to that part. I may have given the Ballard books grief, but at least Connelly never did this mess. It’s not a series that should need a cliffhanger. I am not invested in any of the sub-plots we got and I maybe tossed up my hands at Stil solving a serial killer case in like 5 minutes.
