You Can Tell Me follows Olivia Cruz. Olivia is a true-crime writer who has found herself dealing with writer’s block since she was kidnapped three years ago [see Save Your Breath]. Olivia though is focused on getting past what was done to her and agrees to appear on her friend Zoe’s true crime podcast. When Olivia arrives to meet Zoe and her producer, she’s surprised to see that Zoe is not there. And when Zoe’s husband reports her missing, Olivia starts to investigate along with her longtime boyfriend, Lincoln Sharpe.
This book is a spin-off of a character from the Morgan Dane series, Olivia Cruz. I didn’t feel anyway about her honestly, but this in-depth look of her, her family, and her relationship with Lincoln. I think this series could be so much more. I absolutely cannot stop reading the Bree Taggert series and did really enjoy the Morgan Dane series as well. This one was just missing something I think and honestly it’s because the main mystery (where did Olivia’s friend go?) was not that interesting. And when we get the reveals of what was going on and why I had a lot of comments/questions and just didn’t buy anything. And then there was a subplot tossed in dealing with Olivia’s niece that could have been left out. It didn’t add anything to the story at all and took away from character development of Olivia. We eventually get Lincoln’s point of view, but we mostly get Olivia’s niece and then the missing friend. It just needed one voice I think to hang everything together.
