Okay, Hotel Limbo V01 by Ben Harel…. What the h-e-double hockey sticks did I read? This is one confusing, wild, unusual and crazy book. In other words, it is a must read.
Okay, readers. I cannot tell you the story. Sure I can but it then tells you everything you would experience and honestly you should go into this book with no preconceptions other than that it is a journey and experience. But I will say we deal with death. Except it’s funny. Until it isn’t. We deal with plots, schemes, plans and one sleepy security guard and a chef who has a thing about not farting in his kitchen (and Mix and Boss and DM….). BellBoy or BB and you the reader will journey through Puuurrrgetory with or without your masks on. You will meet people who may or not be friends, who may or may not need help, and mabye BB plays a role in more than we realize. Everything is important, even if it doesn’t seem so at first.
The artwork is done by over twenty different artists. This is actually a plot point that I don’t think tells you too much about things. You get chibi, anime, more classic graphic novel and even some manga-ish images (and more). And characters do mention this aesthetic change to their world. This is both a positive and negative. You can get a little of everything, though it can make you wonder who a character is from time to time, though they pretty much keep the basics the same. 
When I started this book (I tried an online reader copy but things can get busy and for me the physical book was easier to read, which I was given a copy of, but took awhile to get too….but a nice quiet weekend found me going through my stacks) I thought it would be a “one and done.” I didn’t realize it was one of how many (please no more than two or three! I don’t think my heart can take it). Since it just came out in April 2026 I thought I’d never see the light for book two. But there is hope, and unless something radical happens between now and March 2027 there is light at the end of the tunnel for a copy sooner than later. I just hope it isn’t a train…after all in Hotel Limbo, we learn almost anything is possible and death just the beginning.
