NUTS by Alice Clayton has a very simple title and a very common premise, but don’t let that dissuade you from reading it. It is amusing, the characters (both primary and secondary) have a good bit of depth even if they are tropes masquerading as characters. The best parts though? It is a love letter to food, cooking and baking, AND the author has wonderfully descriptive passages that made this reader drool and want the recipes.
By turns slapstick and feminist, it is a perfectly delightful way to spend an evening. Which is not to say it’s perfect – remember the part about tropes? – but it’s only $1.99 on Amazon right now, and it’s certainly worth that.
