Spirited V04: Fangs for the Memories by Liv Livingston and Glass House Graphics

September 15, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

A few years ago, Spirited V01 Day of the Living came out. Then Volume 2: Go, Ghoul, Go!, Volume 3: Greenhouse of Horror and then Spirited V04: Fangs for the Memories all by Liv Livingston and Glass House Graphics (illustrator). Which is what I am writing about today. The others, Volume 5: Howl at the Moon came out last year, with Volume 6: It Came from the Deep out in early 2026, and still not read. Yet. And while you do need to read at […]

The Odds by Matt Stanton

August 24, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When the imagination goes wild, it goes really wild for Kip in this 8- to 10-year-old reader graphic novel called The Odds. In this first volume of a new series by Matt Stanton, lives up to its name, The Odds. Kip, our main character, wakes up one morning to see several characters from her dad’s game from his phone, from the television, from her books, a dinosaur her dreams/nightmares, her dad’s comic character, the alien eraser from her pencil, plus a pink elephant that really […]

Facts and Tips on Embarrassments

So Embarrassing: Awkward Moments and How to Get Through Them by Charise Mericle Harper

December 22, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

A little while ago I read a book Screaming Hairy Armadillos from the publisher Workman. While, not usually a fan, I know they have some goodies. But perhaps it is bronze instead. Harper’s non-fiction book is a fun way to learn how to deal with your embarrassment. They combine […]

Blooming good read

November 19, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Due late January/early February, Bloom by Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau is another in the First Second graphic novels dealing with growing up and with sexuality and gender themes. The interesting thing about this book, compared to the others, is the simplicity in the sexual and identity exploration. This time there is “only” a gay couple. The other […]
