A few years ago, Spirited V01 Day of the Living came out. Then Volume 2: Go, Ghoul, Go!, Volume 3: Greenhouse of Horror and then Spirited V04: Fangs for the Memories all by Liv Livingston and Glass House Graphics (illustrator). Which is what I am writing about today. The others, Volume 5: Howl at the Moon came out last year, with Volume 6: It Came from the Deep out in early 2026, and still not read. Yet.
And while you do need to read at least the first book, you should read volumes one to three before starting four. Because the ages (strong 6-7) 8 to 10 will enjoy the continuation of this cute series about three friends with silly humor, semi-spooky paranormal goodies and crazy antics. The premise is Liv is a human girl. She is alive. Like her folks and sibling. All of whom have moved to a new town. A really “you think you have skeletons in your closet, but the closets were built by the skeletons” kind of town. You see, the people of this new town are all vampires, ghosts, invisible people, even werewolves (or werepups).
And while the story was relatable (having issues with baby fangs, school picture day) the action this time around was a bit weaker and less fun for this reader. Still, I love the illustrations (sweet, a little silly, colorful and medium with the details) and the humor of only the vampire’s fangs and clothes appearing in the photograph, friends helping out anyway they can (even if it means they might get into trouble) and no matter how perfect you try to be, sometimes things don’t work out as you hope. They work out better!
