And did I mention, I really hated the ending?

When We Ride by Rex Ogle

February 26, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I hate the ending of When We Ride by Rex Ogle. I cannot believe that Rex Ogle is the same Rex Ogle that wrote the graphic novels Four Eyes and Pizza Face. Or Swan Lake: Quest for the Kingdoms or the Doña Quixote series (as Rey Tercoero).  Have I mentioned I hated the ending of Ogle’s book? I understand why it had to be this way, but still, I hated the ending. Anyway, up to that point (so guess a decent track record, at the […]

When you realized you have read before, but it’s better the 2nd time around

Pizza Face: A Graphic Novel by Rex Ogle and Dave Valeza

February 2, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

While I knew I had read Four Eyes by Rex Ogle, I had thought I hadn’t read Pizza Face: A Graphic Novel (Four Eyes series) also by Rex Ogle and Dave Valeza. Yet, near the middle of things I said, “Oh you have read this book!” But I needed a light read as I had a tough read coming and a semi-tough read behind me, so this was a good cleaning of the senses. Nothing new happens on the pages if you are an adult […]

Monster hunter between homework assignments.

Dona Quixote V01 Rise of the Knight by Rey Terciero

March 11, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Rey Terciero (aka Rex Ogle) made a cute, modern story (a diverse cast) that has a fun take on the Don Quixote story with Dona Quixote V01 Rise of the Knight. The history, culture and modern issues of a Hispanic family unfold while we deal with the idea of trying to be “not too much” but then again being who we are all the while fighting monsters, shapeshifters, ghosts and real world creatures. There are a few cliques (the best friends’ family are “jocks and […]

Some princesses, a prince and a bear go on an adventure

Swan Lake: Quest for the Kingdoms by Rey Terciero

July 3, 2023 by BlackRaven 1 Comment

cbr15bingo Politics: two rival kingdoms are pitted against each other due to lack of understanding and greed There are way too many references to modern ideas, not to mention Swan Lake and Tchaikovsky in the graphic novel, Swan Lake: Quest for the Kingdoms.  But that is part of its charm for adults. For the 10 and up crowd, it is a funny, interesting story that mixes in friendship and assumptions and sword fights together. Combining all the fantasy and science fiction elements (I can make a […]

I can see clearly now

Four Eyes: A Graphic novel (book one) by Rex Ogle

April 17, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I did not think I was going to like Four Eyes: A Graphic novel (volume one) as much as I did. Oh, I knew I would like it, it seems funny and cute, but I figured it would be obvious, another book where the kid is different, bullies and then the happy ending.  The interesting part about his graphic novel, Rex Ogle does not take the easy path. He takes the realistic path. Loosely based on Ogle’s own story, this is a relatable story that […]
