Note: This review was of an ARC, or advance reader copy, of Murder and Mayhem by Rhys Ford. At the time of the review, the book was not yet available on Amazon.com, so the link leads to the author’s profile page. The book is expected to be released June 5, 2015. All the way from the drunken recesses of their minds, a review brought to you by Katinka and Patinka, the Mysterious Bearded Snark Twins. Will they love it? Will […]
Crazy for thinking that my love could hold you
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-wJNpWgss8&w=420&h=315] Patty: Girl. After the dreck that was the subject of our previous review, I needed something reasonable and normal. Good call on this one. Katie: I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I read it years ago, and recently came across it again when I was looking for something else on my Kindle. I was curious to to find what you thought about it, and to see if it held up over time. So many romances really don’t. Quinn is a small-town art teacher. […]
Never Gonna Give You Up – it’s destiny, after all
Katie: Oh, gentle reader… Phatty has found a treat for us this time. The Sword by Jean Johnson reads like Lord of the Rings romantic fanfic written by someone who hasn’t actually read a well-written romance novel. Think better than E.L. James in that someone is concerned about grammar and spelling, but then they forgot to fix the excessive use of exclamation points. Actually, it reminds me a good bit of Dara Joy now that I think about it. Anyone else read Rejar or Knight […]
Exit light, enter night
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1boUYB9LFJY&w=560&h=315] Katie: Okay, lemme just start out by saying that I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how good the Hellsinger series has been so far. They have terrible titles, but that isn’t the fault of the books. Rhys Ford, please, for the love of a good book, ask if you need help with titles. You can leave a comment below or find me on Twitter. Patty: Yeah, the first one was OK: Fish and Ghosts, a play on fish and guests and the whole three […]
You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.
“This could be heaven, or this could be hell…” This week’s review is brought to you Don Henley’s righteous white man’s afro. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSvSsNSuVtk&w=420&h=315] Katie: This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I believe in ghosts, so it’s kind of ironic (or something, anyway) that this week’s selection is about a “Ghostbuster” named Wolf Hellsinger and a children’s book author/illustrator named Tristan Pryce who sees dead people. After all, my middle school looks like it should be haunted, I grew up […]
