Does Cookie Dough Ice Cream Go With Red or White Wine?

May 23, 2018 by Emmalita 4 Comments

I don’t really like listening to romance audiobooks, but The Wedding Date was so charming I listened to this for hours. Alexa and Drew have a meet cute – trapped together in an elevator where they share Alexa’s cheese and crackers and Drew tells her about the wedding from Hell he is attending alone that weekend. They laugh and flirt. He invites her to be his date. She agrees. It’s a one weekend thing. She lives in the Bay Area. He lives in LA. They both […]

Romance Novel or LA and SF food recommendation book?

March 4, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I think I have been reading or watching too many romances where the couple falls in love and resolves everything in a short amount of time, so based on the title, I honestly thought this novel might take place over a wedding weekend but Guillory uses the wedding date as a launching point. The novel kicks off with the meet cute right away – Alexa gets stuck on an elevator on her way to see her older sister, but fortunately she has celebratory cheese in […]

Finally, a Romance Author Who Understands the Importance of Quality Snacks

February 24, 2018 by faintingviolet 4 Comments

I accrued some library fines on this book and I’m sending my apology out to the universe for the person behind me in the holds list who is delayed in getting this copy in their hands. That’s what happens when you get six books on interlibrary loan over three days (after none arriving for three weeks), your social calendar gets very full, and you can’t renew this new book (published January 30, 2018 y’all). But I’m also quite glad that I embraced the fines and kept the […]

Featuring an elevator of love

February 19, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 2 Comments

3.5 stars. I don’t end up reading a lot of romance because although I love the genre, a large percentage of my reading is audio nowadays and I just can’t bring myself to listen to sex scenes in public, even if no one knows that’s what I’m doing. Whenever I get a chance to read one though, I always have so much fun and wonder why I don’t make time more often. The Wedding Date did not disappoint! Alexa and Drew have an adorable meet […]

On the Importance of Purse Snacks

February 2, 2018 by J 3 Comments

When Romance Twitter gets hype over a book, I listen. Which is how I ended up paying full price* for this delightful book despite it sharing a title with a not-very-good-but-serviceable-on-a-Saturday-night movie. Alexa Monroe finds herself trapped in an elevator with Drew Nichols. During a power outage, the two flirt over purse cheese, prompting Drew to ask Alexa to be his date that weekend for the wedding of one of his exes to one of his friends. The sparks from their flirtation erupt into a […]

Delightful debut romance, will be published in January. Me and Roxane Gay say ’tis good.

December 30, 2017 by narfna Leave a Comment

NB: I was sent an advanced reader’s copy by the publisher but it has not affected the content of my review. So joke’s on the publisher for this one because I was totally going to buy this book anyway, on release day even, but now I don’t have to! Free book!! You guys lost my $8 or whatever!! Just kidding, I will probably still buy it. It was good! So the premise here is that Alexa and Drew meet by chance in an elevator when […]
