Who knew intergalactic peace summits could be so entertaining?

December 2, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

This is the second book in the Innkeeper Chronicles. It can be read as a stand-alone, but to really get the most enjoyment out of this book, and to get a proper feel and understanding for some of the characters, you may want to read the first one, Clean Sweep and also two of the Andrews’ Edge books, Fate’s Edge and Steel’s Edge. As I did last time, I’m going to let the authors sum up the book themselves: Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical […]

You can take the Beast Lord out of the Citadel, but you can’t take the Lord out of the Beast.

First, I would like to thank the lovely Malin for making it possible for me to read Magic Shifts at this time. Yes, I could have waited until I had an extra $13 or until it was available at the library, but that would have been weeks. So thank you, Malin. Second, there will be spoilers for the previous books as well as little spoilers for this one. I don’t know how to write about the series without getting into spoilers. If you haven’t read […]

“Answer me this, did you hesitate at all or did you see the giant, go ‘Wheee!’ and run toward it?”

4.5 stars Spoiler warning! This is book 8 in the series, and some really big stuff happened in the last book. Seriously, if you haven’t read Magic Breaks yet, there will be spoilers, so return once you’re caught up. If you haven’t read any Ilona Andrews books yet, you should do your very best to change that as soon as possible. They write among the best paranormal books out there, you won’t be sorry. After a period of adjustment after the confrontation in the previous […]

I almost forgot how to book review

June 22, 2015 by alwaysanswerb Leave a Comment

Okay, I read this over a month ago and my brain has been so completely in another place since then. Obsolete reviews are fun! Let’s do this, with a generous assist from Goodreads: “The Edge lies between worlds, on the border between the Broken, where people shop at Walmart and magic is a fairytale–and the Weird, where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny… Cerise Mar and her unruly clan are cash poor but land rich, claiming […]

Another series to obsess over (but let’s not mention that cover)

April 7, 2015 by alwaysanswerb 7 Comments

It took me a bit less than six hours to read this book, and that’s including the time I spent to stop and breathe. Yes, like everything Ilona Andrews writes, Burn for Me was insanely addictive, filled with their signature magic-laced action and another addition to their canon of loyal, sardonic heroines who (apparently) underestimate their own appeal. This heroine is Nevada Baylor (THAT is a NAME!), owner and chief field agent of a family firm of private investigators that is controlled by a larger corporate […]

Ignore the cover, read the book

March 29, 2015 by Emmalita 5 Comments

Sometimes I’m reluctant to start a book because I know once I start, I won’t stop until I’m done. I’ve been holding off on Burn for Me for that reason. I was right. I could not put it down. I was in the middle of reviewing the 4th Sandman Slim novel when I started reading Burn for Me. GAH! Two quibbles. One – the cover is awful. I couldn’t bear to post it. Ignore it and read the book. Two – I hate the intro […]
