Three extremely different books about space

Otherworldly by Dwain Worrell

Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

May 18, 2026 by kfishgirl 1 Comment

I’m being lazy and combining these three VERY DIFFERENT BOOKS because Space! I read Otherworldly and Project Hail Mary as ebooks, and Atmosphere as an audiobook. Otherworldly first! So, one of my favorite book genres is space horror. My list of fears (to read or watch a movie / TV show about) is not very long. Deep down in the ocean scares me to bits, and so does outer space. I think they’re similar in that once you’re there, you’re at the mercy of however […]

In case you were wondering, there aren’t really any werewolves in this book.

The Werewolf Principle by Clifford D. Simak

January 28, 2026 by narfna 4 Comments

Quite an interesting little book. And charming, in the way that a lot of 1960s/70s sci-fi is charming—I love the way that people thought the future might be (in this case, a world government, smart houses that take care of humans and that can fly), and also in this case, Simak’s imagination doesn’t really gel with science as we know it. But if you suspend your disbelief, you get a weird little book about a man found frozen in space who turns out to have […]

The Inheritance by Ilona Andrews

CBR17 Bingo: Free (swapping out Migrant) In a world pretty much like our own, people were just going about their ordinary lives when suddenly, everything changed. Gigantic portals to some other mystical dimension began opening all over the world. It soon became clear that if the portals were left unattended for a while, hordes of horrific monsters emerged and proceeded to wreak havoc. Once specialised teams started breaching the gates, they discovered each portal contained a lot of rare and valuable minerals and resources, as […]

It was easier to read once I had the mental image of Robert Pattinson as Mickey in my head

Mickey7 by Edward Ashton

July 27, 2025 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars Nowhere Books Bingo 25: Book adapted into a movie or TV show CBR17 Bingo: Diaspora (Mickey7 and the others on his crew are colonists on a hostile planet far from their original home) Mickey Barnes has, through some truly idiotic decisions, ended up acquiring so much gambling debt that he now has to leave the planet. Literally the only way he can do that is to go with the space expedition, which is setting off to colonise the far-off planet of Niflheim. Unfortunately, […]

A doozy of a book!

You Weren't Meant to be Human by Andrew Joseph White

July 15, 2025 by LB 2 Comments

You Weren’t Meant to be Human fulfills the “black” square on CBR17 Bingo I had Andrew Joseph White on my radar from his debut, but it wasn’t until Compound Fracture that I finally read one of his books. Even though most of his books haven’t exactly been for me, I have a special spot in my heart for Appalachia, and especially West Virigina because it will always be home. So when I saw AJW’s upcoming adult debut was set in WV, I knew I needed to […]
