#CBR10Bingo: This is the end This is the tenth and final book in a long running series. As such, there may be spoilers for the contents of at least previous books, as well as mild spoilers for the plot of this one. More importantly, it is NOT the place to start. The proper place to begin is Magic Bites. The book is a bit rough, but stick with it, this series is among the best paranormal fantasy out there. I’ve spent more than eleven hours on a train from Canada today, and then more than an hour getting back from Penn Station, […]
Having devoured the rest of the Kate Daniels series earlier this year, I pre-ordered this and read it as soon as it came out (although stupid work has got in the stupid way of reviewing ever since). Magic Triumphs made for a great finale to a fantastic series – I’ll definitely miss having more Kate to look forward to. So…War has been looming for post-shift Atlanta ever since Kate laid claim to the land, making her a direct obstacle to her father’s quest for domination. Still navigating the new politics brought about by having split from the Pack, she’s now […]
This review is not for people who have not read the book.
Verdict: It’s fine, but I wanted better.
#CBR10Bingo: Throwback Thursday Spoiler warning! This is my re-read of the first nine books in the Kate Daniels series, in addition to the two books books set in the same universe, Gunmetal Magic and Iron and Magic, as well as two of the more essential novellas to complete my revisit of the complex and fascinating world that Ilona Andrews have created. If you read through this review, I will assume you are familiar with the series already. If you haven’t read the books yet, but are looking for a good introduction, check out Den of Geek’s very cool article here. Full re-read review posted on my blog. As of […]
Bingo Square: So Shiny One good thing about being on the West Coast for work: my Kate Daniels pre-order was delivered to my Kindle account at 12 AM EST, which was 9 pm PST. I was still up at that point, and immediately dropped the other book I was reading (it’s alright, it was for the TBT square so it’s not like I don’t know how it’s going to end) and dived into Magic Triumphs! So first off, Conlan, Curran and Kate’s son, is adorable! He is about 13 months old in this one, and hasn’t shifted but that’s because […]
4.5 stars While this is technically the first book in a new series, which can be read on its own, this book fits into the larger framework of the Kate Daniels universe (where this book is book 9.5 out of 10). So there’s quite a bit of back story you’re missing out on if you’ve not read the other books first. While the first book is rough, the series as a whole is my favourite paranormal/urban fantasy series, probably ever, so if you like the genre and haven’t checked them out yet, do yourself a favour and get caught up before you […]
I know I enjoyed this instalment of the Kate Daniels series. However, I also know that my brain was virtually buzzing with the flu when I read it, so it’s all taken on the slight haze of a Night Nurse influenced dream in my head. If I remember correctly (do point out any flu medicine induced hallucinations), Roland is busy building a stronghold on the borders of Atlanta, sending Kate into conniptions. He’s also kidnapped Saiman, so the tenuous truce that has been holding between them since Kate claimed the city is starting to shake, as Kate isn’t one to […]
I’m trying to space the last of these books out a little but kind of failing at that thanks to how insanely readable they are, especially while real life is a little tough, so it’s nice to wrap myself up in a world that’s so easy to get lost in (even if the characters lives are infinitely more stressful than mine). Having made a deal with Roland following her claiming of Atlanta to step away from the Pack, Kate and Curran are trying to get used to suburban life. Suburbia isn’t quite so boring in Atlanta though, as it’s currently […]
