I Love This. Always.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

September 6, 2019 by ElCicco 1 Comment

Cbr11bingo I love this. When the first Harry Potter book came out, I read a review of it in the New York Times and thought it sounded like a fun series for kids. After The Chamber of Secrets came out, the Quality Paperback Book Club (of which I was a card carrying member) offered a deal to get both volumes in hard cover, so I took advantage of it. Like millions of people around the world, I fell in love the the stories and their characters. When The Prisoner of Azkaban was published, I went to the local Borders Books […]

Eat slugs, Malfoy.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2) by J.K. Rowling

February 8, 2019 by narfna 13 Comments

This little beginning of the month Harry Potter re-read is turning out to be quite delightful. Normally I just mainline them as fast as I can back to back. But new month, new Harry Potter book to read, is a nice change! A little trip to Hogwarts to start February off right. I’m going to continue with the format I used last go-round, since it was pretty stress-free, and didn’t involve a heck of a lot of thought. Plus, my usual tactic with reviews is to focus on the big picture, ignoring all the small stuff. It’s nice to only focus on […]

The Past Continues to be a Foe in the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling, Jim Dale narrator

April 12, 2017 by faintingviolet 5 Comments

Friends, I finally remembered what initially began the itch to reread Harry Potter. Our very own narfna, along with some cannonball and not cannonball friends, did a Medicinal Re-Read and I remember following along (thanks, Goodreads)! It’s been since 2013! Okay, as you were, let’s get to the actual reviewing. I have always thought book four, Goblet of Fire was my least favorite Potter, and that may still be true for the book versions (we’ll have to see when I get there in a few weeks), but I was resoundingly underwhelmed this go-round with The Chamber of Secrets and the […]

Rereading Harry Potter for Sanity and Resistance, Book 2

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling

February 24, 2017 by emmalita Leave a Comment

The second Harry Potter book is not my favorite in the series. It’s not bad, it’s just not my favorite. I am going to assume that if you are reading this review you are familiar with the series and I’m not going to worry about spoilers. That said, it’s the one where some very important political ideas are brought forward – most importantly, how do we divide ourselves, how do we treat people who are not exactly like us? Dobie the House Elf makes his first appearance and introduces us to the plight of non-human magical beings. “Mudblood” makes it’s […]

Yer a Parseltongue Harry!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling

February 13, 2017 by Caitlin_D 2 Comments

It’s been a pretty long time since I’ve seen Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (it’s my husbands least favorite so we tend to start our marathons at Azkaban) and even longer since I’ve read the book (like, I dunno 15 years…) So this journey was a pleasant surprise. After a miserable summer with the Dursley family, and despite an ominous warning from Dobby the house elf, Harry Potter finds himself back at Hogwarts. Shortly after arriving there are attacks on several students born to non magical parents which leave them petrified. Rumors of a secret chamber, built by Salazar Slytherin, […]
