Two great graphic novels reviewed in one hurried post. Typed on my phone, no less!

June 16, 2015 by scootsa1000 3 Comments

Here’s the deal. I’m apologizing up front for these two reviews. I’m currently sitting in an elementary school gym, typing away on my phone’s wordpress app, waiting for the chorus to come out and perform their spring concert. Selections include “Payphone” by Maroon 5 and “Treasure” by Bruno Mars. Things have really changed since I was a kid and the craziest we ever got was singing a song from Pippen or a medley of commercial jingles. But I digress. I read two great graphic novels, […]

Tell them Carl Sagan Sent You!

Atomic Robo is pretty perfect for reading while reading other things. It’s just right for a 5 minute breather, and also holds up well to marathoning. The story line is not difficult to follow, but is still thoroughly engaging. I’m skipping over reviewing Volume 2: Atomic Robo and the Dogs of War, because I would say pretty much the same thing I said for Volume 1 and I will say for Volume 3 – Atomic Robo is smart and funny and you should go read […]

The Fables series finale begins

June 11, 2015 by TylerDFC Leave a Comment

After finishing Camelot, I started wondering about the seeds Willingham was planting that point toward very bad things happening to Fabletown and the Farm where our various heroes and anti-heroes make their homes. The series has had a couple of board-clearing events in the past but this one felt different. Turns out I was right. Last year, Willingham announced he was ending both Fables and the spinoff, Fairest, this summer. Specifically the last issue will come out July 22, 2015 and be 150 pages long. […]

Maybe Everything Isn’t Hopeless Bullshit

June 5, 2015 by yesknopemaybe 5 Comments

I was a big fan of the Hyperbole and a Half blog so I kept meaning to get around to reading this memoir/graphic novel by Allie Brosh, but for some reason it kept getting pushed to the bottom of my reading pile. Maybe subconsciously I was saving it for a low point, some future time when I needed a serious laugh. I’m glad I saved it because it was just the medicine I needed when I was sick and stuck in bed for a week. […]

Nuke B-Gone

May 25, 2015 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

About a week ago Facebook friend and fellow Pajiban, Vermillion, started posting images from something called Atomic Robo. This is the post that really grabbed me.–> OBVIOUSLY, I needed to know more. It turns out the dinosaur is Dr. Dinosaur and he is possibly Atomic Robo’s enemy, or frenemy. I don’t really know, because he hasn’t shown up yet. Atomic Robo was built by Nikola Tesla. He is a self-aware robot. An adventurer with a wry and biting sense of humor. He is a core […]

Detective Boobs Fights Ghosties

April 30, 2015 by McM 2 Comments

These two graphic novels, The Unknown and The Unknown: Devil Made Flesh, were good enough, but I was repeatedly sucked right out of the story by the main character’s overdone breasts. Let me explain. Here’s the description: “Revered as the smartest person alive, Catherine Allingham is the world’s most famous provate investigator. Follow her adventures as she sets out to solve the one mystery she’s never been able to crack-death!”     These were the covers that enticed me to pick these up at the […]
