Another romance that doesn’t exactly know how consent works

December 26, 2016 by alwaysanswerb 1 Comment

Editorial note: I read this back in July, and wasn’t planning on reviewing it for CBR, but now that I’m trying to get to 104, you get a rambling rant. Enjoy! I had been excited for this one because it’s an erotic romance set in the regency era, in the US! Which is not something I have read before! The hero was immediately disappointing. He barely seemed to like the heroine at all, except for sexual/possession purposes. And I guess that therefore I didn’t really […]

The review in which a misunderstanding and an international incident lead to a DNF

September 15, 2016 by maydays 1 Comment

This is my second DNF review for CBR8.  I have really good reasons, other than the fact that this book was going nowhere. Let’s get the reviewy part out of the way.  This blandly-titled thriller starts with Simone and Matt discovering that their infant daughter Helena has been abducted.  Fast-forward, and a young woman named Grace seeks out Simone claiming that she might be her missing daughter and also claiming that she may have just killed a man.  Grace’s requests, actions, and backstory are a […]

Free Thoughts on the Continental… oh, wait, on The Marriage Plot

July 15, 2016 by crystalclear 4 Comments

As a disclaimer, this is a review for a DNF.  I just can’t.  It isn’t the light fluffy thing I was hoping for, and… I just… no. (And yes, baxlala, I was inspired by your review titles!) Our story revolves around Madeline Hanna.  She is a senior English Major graduating from Brown. (Fancy!)  We also have the rest of our love triangle, Leonard Bankhead (a Biology/Philosophy major) and Mitchell Grammaticus (a Religious Studies major), also at Brown.  The boys are both a little strange, but Mitchell in […]

One of these things is not like the other

April 27, 2016 by maydays 3 Comments

Well, this is awkward. I bought this book after a couple rave reviews here on CBR.  As with many of my CBR reads, it’s a bit outside my usual repetoire.  This is my first CBR DNF.  I’m not even sure if that’s CBR legal.  Can I review if I didn’t finish?  I’m going with the “ask for forgiveness, not permission” route. For a while I was attending an ARC book club at the local bookstore.  Each member registers and gets to borrow an Advanced Reader […]
