Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

May 31, 2021 by jomidi Leave a Comment

I don’t know why it took me two years and a book group to get around to reading Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.  I had read and enjoyed one of her earlier books (Maybe in Another Life), the book got lots of good press when it was released (it was even a Reese Book Club title), and I do like to read about rock and roll and the 70’s. The book is about Daisy Jones, an unloved, rich, gorgeous, talented girl […]

Rock On

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

February 11, 2020 by Jake Leave a Comment

Even as I was prepped for it by all the hype, I didn’t expect to like Daisy Jones & The Six as much as I did. I devoured it in a day, feeling angry whenever I had to put it down. It starts off good, gets better, and brushes greatness near the end. The whole concept of a fictional musical biography would normally not hold much appeal. I find most musicians vain in the same way I suppose many non-sports fans find athletes vain. But everyone and […]

An oral history of a fictional 1970s rock band. Do the audio if you can.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This made for an enjoyable week of audiobook listening. It was highly entertaining, even if I often found the characters frustrating. I think this is one of the few times where, if you have the capability (library, Audible or other audiobook subscriptions) and like audiobooks, then do the audiobook. The audio format really enhances the experience. If you’re not aware, Daisy Jones & The Six is an oral history of a fictional 1970s rock band, and the story is done entirely in interviews from the former band […]

4.5 Stars for Audio and 3 Stars for Actual Story

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

November 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So, I have to say that all in all, I really enjoyed “Daisy Jones & The Six.” I am so glad many of my friends suggested I listen to this via an audiobook. I can definitely understand why many readers DNFed this book though. The interview style format would be a much to try to read. Same reason I gave up trying to read “War World Z” that’s another book you have to experience by audio. The voice actors in this one killed it, and […]

A merely OK book made much better by the voice cast

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

September 29, 2019 by Malin 1 Comment

From Goodreads: Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now. Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice […]
