A lot of Star Wars fans were nervous when Marvel/Disney took over Star Wars comics from Dark Horse. For years, DH had told some amazing stories in the Star Wars universe through the medium of comics. It was unclear whether Marvel would live up to Dark Horse’s standards, or if it would just publish tie-in garbage. While I am only a casual Star Wars fan, I am a true comic book nerd. I am happy to report that Marvel is doing great with Star Wars. They […]
Paul Scheer Wrote a Sci-Fi Comedy Comic!
Did y’all know that Paul Scheer wrote a comic book? I had no idea! Because I like comics, comedy, and space, Amazon suggested I check out Aliens Vs Parker. Paul Scheer, the comic/actor/writer/podcaster, was listed as the author. I double-checked to make sure it was the same Paul Scheer, and it is! Wild. This trade paperback collection of a four-issue run was published by BOOM!. I have previously reviewed BOOM! comics and noted that they often excel at concepts but underperform in the delivery of their […]
80’s wrestlers, ghosts, betrayal, indie comics, and more!
Do you enjoy 1980s professional wrestling, indie comics, social media, metal, fantasy, and juvenile humor? Yes? Then For the Title is the book for you! As you can probably tell from the book cover, this is a silly comic. It tells the story of a man called Warrior. He receives a dream visit from a ghost called Macho Ghost. The Macho Ghost needs Warrior to win “the belt” so that Warrior gets a “Champion Wish”. The Champion Wish can let you do anything! Warrior can […]
I still love it.
Vol. 3, or the one where Sex Criminals goes even more meta than usual. This series is probably the weirdest ongoing thing I read by quite a large margin, but it’s so kindhearted and earnest and willing to take chances, I just very much want everyone to give it a go. I’m trying right now to get my book club to read the first volume, so we’ll see about that (I think some of them might read it with their hands over their mouths in […]
Kamala survived Secret Wars and is now just as awesome as before.
How does this series continue to be SO GOOD. It is the only superhero comic I read that doesn’t allow the larger events of the Marvel (or whatever other comics) universe to completely mess with the narrative it’s trying to tell. Kamala is always Kamala. I never feel discombobulated when I’m reading about her, even if I’ve missed issues where she’s popped in to other superheroes stories, or there’s been some sort of crossover event, like Secret Wars/Battleworld. No idea how that mess all got […]
The Picture Version of Texts With Jane Eyre
I’m glad I lent crystalclear the Hamilton book when I had it out from the library, or I’d feel in real friend debt, since she has been lending me books all year. This is another delivery from her, and it served as a palate cleanser between Children of God, When a Scot Ties the Knot, and The House of the Spirits. Yes, I have weird reading habits, Casino Royale was in there too for a short time. I feel this book works best in that […]
