Thank you livresquejess!

December 1, 2022 by Emmalita 2 Comments

Livresquejess made my night with an email gifting me with three ebooks. I know, I am so basic, I really only read on my tablet these days. I am so excited, just look at these beauties: I have been drooling over The Ballad of Perilous Graves by Alex Jennings since some time late last year when I saw a blurb about it on Twitter (RIP BookTwitter). Last year I saw a review of Half a Soul from KJ Charles and have been wanting it since, […]

Thanks So Much to My Cannonballer!

November 28, 2022 by Jake 1 Comment

Thanks so much to my awesome cannonballer for getting me two items off my list! Unlike years past, I didn’t have a good idea of what I wanted so I decided to list two books that sounded fun but also weird. I’m hoping they’ll take me out of my comfort zone a bit while hewing close to genres I like. Those books are: Reptile Memoirs by Silje Ulstein High John the Conqueror by Tariq Goddard Thanks so much to whoever got me these two. I’m incredibly grateful and […]

It’s a Book Exchange MIRACLE! Thanks AGAIN, GoAllieGo!

January 11, 2022 by andtheIToldYouSos Leave a Comment

This is the Book Exchange that keeps on giving! Imagine my delight- and surprise- to find ANOTHER book from the amazing Allie- complete with a lovely card and bookmark! I was so excited to read this book (my first by this author) that I jumped right in without realizing it was part of a series. OOPS!!!! I enjoyed the little that I read, and now I have the first entry (thanks, local library!) so I cannot wait to run through BOTH. Thanks again AGAIN to […]

Hench by Natalie Zina Walschots

December 29, 2021 by Emmalita 1 Comment

I loved Hench, LOVED IT! It’s funny, thoughtful, violent, compassionate and full of rage. Anna Truelove, pronounced troh-MED-lov, is trying to get a stable job working for a supervillain. The gig economy though, means mostly she temps and tries to stave off scurvy while she rises and grinds and waits for her invoices to get paid. As she’s starting to get a foothold in the Electric Eel’s organization, Supercolider and his sidekick, Accelerator, intervene in the Eel’s dastardly deeds and Anna ends up in the […]

Hag-Seed by Margaret Atwood

December 29, 2021 by narfna 2 Comments

I actually really enjoyed this retelling of The Tempest*, particularly since I had just re-read the play as a refresher, so it was a lot easier to catch all the references and parallels. This is actually only my third Margaret Atwood book, which feels weird, since she is everywhere, and also because I’ve read The Handmaid’s Tale three times. About time I branched out! (I’m sorry, Malin, I still haven’t read The Blind Assassin, which is a book I know you love.) *Thanks to andtheIToldYouSos […]
