Leopard in a Woman’s Skin

The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

March 29, 2026 by Pooja 1 Comment

Carlota leads a sheltered life as the only daughter of Dr. Moreau, who creates human-animal hybrids on a remote estate in Mexico. But when the son of her father’s sponsor comes to visit, it sets into motion a chain of events which upends everything she knows about her father’s work, and about herself. I haven’t read The Island of Doctor Moreau, but luckily you don’t need to have to done so to enjoy this book – though I’m sure I probably missed an Easter egg or […]

The Obake Code by Makana Yamamoto

The Obake Code by Makana Yamamoto

March 28, 2026 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Last year, Hammajang Luck was one of my favorite reads, so I was delighted when I saw that there was a book 2 and it was out now and the audio was available through my library. The audiobook becoming available in time for the 2026 Trans Rights Readathon felt like kismet. The Obake Code is largely a standalone, though I do think everyone should read Hammajang Luck because it is excellent. Jolene Kim did a lot as narrator. She had different voices for Malia’s inside thoughts, […]

Heading into the Grishaverse

Six of Crows (Six of Crows #1) by Leigh Bardugo

March 24, 2026 by kfishgirl 2 Comments

As someone who fully enjoyed Leigh Bardugo’s Alex Stern series (and still does), I decided to branch out into other books of hers. I think I literally just went to Goodreads and looked for another Leigh Bardugo series. I was just looking through some people’s reviews of this book on Goodreads, and one specific reviewer that I follow illustrated my feelings about this book. She had trouble getting into it initially, which I also did. I borrowed the ebook from the library, and it went […]

Harrow the Ninth (The Locked Tomb #2) by Tamsyn Muir

March 21, 2026 by bjornsnipe 2 Comments

She answered the Emperor’s call (as if she ever had a choice). She arrived with her arts, her wits, her neverending death wish, and her only friend (not that she’d admit to that before it was all too late.) Oh, your cavaliers are young? And they fight? How classic! So jejune!-but that would not have been the wild and confident fuck-you of the Ninth House. The Ninth House character, she was forced to admit, had always been low on wild and confident fucks. In victory, […]

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

March 21, 2026 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This book is a wild and disturbing ride. I’m not sure how to talk about it without spoilers, so if you haven’t read it and want to – don’t say I didn’t warn you. In the world of this book, all animals have contracted a virus that makes them poisonous to humans. And when I say all animals, I mean cows, pigs, chickens, and other livestock, but also birds, and cats and dogs, and squirrels. And believe me, I KNOW the animals being poisonous was […]

After Midnight by Daphne Du Maurier

After Midnight by Daphne Du Maurier

March 21, 2026 by Classic Leave a Comment

I have to say this collection was fantastic from beginning to end. It has a great introduction by Stephen King and then you just get to Daphne Du Maurier doing what she does best. All of the stories are five stars in my opinion. The Blue Lenses-We follow a married woman whose sight is restored, but what she sees now, shows something ominous could be in her future. I thought the ending was a great gut punch and you can guess at what happens to […]
