Second quarter down, two more to go. We’ve got this! And I’ve got news of our second donation of the year to the American Cancer Society in the amount of $75. That brings our total for the year to $150.00, and our grand total of donations to ACS increases to $6,750.00. Thank you very much to our donors so far this year. CBR Diversions – Can You Recommend a Book?

July 10, 2020 by Emmalita 19 Comments

Now that the CBR12 Book Bingo Reading Challenge has begun, the hunt is on for books to fill squares. Some squares, like The Roaring 20’s and Money, are ripe for recommendations. All book recommendations are welcome, because what works for you for White Whale might be someone else’s Shelfie. In the kick-off post, vel veeter got us started with some color in the title recommendations: Often in book challenges, they use colors….which I find difficult to find. But I did some research: The Yellow House […]

CBR Diversions – Dream Casting

June 26, 2020 by teresaelectro 20 Comments

I first saw HBO’s True Blood series before absolutely devouring the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse books. Same for The Golden Compass, which was panned by critics, but led to me reading the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. The screen versions captivated me and I simply had to know the literary origins of the characters. When I read a particularly engaging novel, […]

CBR Diversions – 250 Words is 240 Too Many

June 12, 2020 by Emmalita 20 Comments

We all have those books that are so uninspiring that we can’t find 250 words to say about them – not even if we have the back of book blurb to add. We didn’t love them, but we also didn’t hate them. They were books we read and now we have nothing to say.

Quick Questions with a Cannonballer: octothorp

June 10, 2020 by Bothari43 7 Comments

Why ‘octothorp’ (besides the fact that it’s a super cool word)? Apparently I have a punctuation fetish I’m sublimating – ha! My husband and I have ampersand tattoos because of Y The Last Man (the whole section about ampersands being used to denote partnerships that are collaborative as opposed to typing the word “and” if each person did their own work resonated), I used to post in the early days of the mothership as ellipsis, nearly named my kid Thorn with a plan to get […]
