The Murder of Mr. Wickham by Claudia Gray

November 2, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

The short, spoiler-free version: Two thumbs up, very fun. Surprisingly angsty. Does justice to murder mysteries and to Jane Austen. The longer, mostly spoiler-free version (spoils the premise and which characters are in the book from the Jane Austen canon): But where is Elinor?? I am disappointed that she only merits a couple of mentions in this book when we are in Marianne’s POV, but maybe Claudia Gray just doesn’t love her as much as I do. That’s pretty easy to do, I guess, because […]

Punderworld Volume 1 by Linda Sejic

October 3, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

There are several Hades and Persephone stories, and Punderworld Volume 1 might not be as popular as others, but (not having read the others) I would say it seems equally fun. Linda Sejic seems to have made a lighter take on things, but still deals with a darker side of the Greek mythos. Dealing with life and death and how they are part of the same coin, love (and its ups and downs and flaming chariots), family and more this relatable tale makes you forget […]

Cursed Princess Club Volume One by Lambcat

Cursed Princess Club Volume Two by Lambcat

September 30, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Cursed Princess Club Volume One created by Lambcat is a WebToons special. In January 2023 volumes one and two (the summer of 2023) will be (hopefully) published in a physical format (as long as there are no broken-down trucks, snowstorms, printing issues, or acts of the Great Spaghetti Monster). When the King of the Pastel Kingdom wakes his children in the morning, one is sleeping in the flowers that grows wherever she is, one has birds and critters brushing her hair, one is delighting and sparkling […]

Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins Library Edition Series I & II Collection by Matthew Mercer

August 3, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I only know the TV series of Vox Machina so my feelings are from hat incarnation of everything (and by everything, I mean the D&D game it is based on, the videos, and anything online or other book formats). The creators of this collection are Matthew Mercer, Jody Houser, Matthew Colville, Olivia Samson, and Chris Northrop. Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins Library Edition Series I & II Collection is a collection has the gang to be known as Vox Machina before they were The Gang. […]

Levi…*heart eyes*

Fangirl, the Manga. Vol 2 by Rainbow Rowell, Sam Maggs and Gabi Nam

July 30, 2022 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars CBR14 Bingo: Bodies (Cath and Levi become a lot more aware of each other’s bodies in this volume – not like THAT. Get your mind out of the gutter!) Cath has started getting more comfortable at college and with her classes, but she still finds it difficult to reconcile the fact that her twin, Wren, is having such a great time without her. Wren is embracing the party lifestyle and seems to spend a lot of evenings out drinking with her roommate. Meanwhile, […]

From one queer artist to 10 others

Queer as All Get Out: 10 People Who've Inspired Me by Shelby Criswell

July 29, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Queer as All Get Out: 10 People Who’ve Inspired Me by Shelby Criswell has been on the TBR list for a bit now. I just happened to be looking for something else at my local library and noticed they had it. (I might have “YEEESS!” out loud….) I checked it out and started to read that night. At first, I noticed that it was a tad slow as we are given an almost journal entry, or direct speech at the start from Criswell. They are introducing […]
