I read (a lot) of books in this genre: YA teen in an alternate present/near future often dystopian… usually there’s a boy involved (I prefer when that is not the primary story line) and the girl is a “chosen one” or “special” or something. Anyways, I do not know how I had not seen this series until now. If you’re into this genre, you should read this one. It was a super quick read and I’m ready for the second tonight! (It is also free […]
Makes you think twice about the sick people on the plane with you…
I would give this a solid 4.5 stars (rounded up here). This book has been on my to-read list for over a year, and I finally was able to walk away from my ongoing series to listen to this one. It was an excellent audiobook, I really enjoyed the narration. Short synopsis: It’s the end of the world as we know it… there is a virus that wipes out 99.99% (est.) of the human population. The book primarily follows a few key characters throughout their […]
I don’t agree with the Amazon reviews…
Some people reported this as “engrossing” and “captivating” or “compelling”… I would never say that. Perhaps these other people have never read another book? I would also not call it mind-blowing… unless you mean mind-blowingly slow, mind-blowingly full of superfluous adjectives, or mind-blowingly awkward. Yeah, I’m not a fan of this book and I would not have finished it except that I want to be able to participate in my first group book read… A short blurb containing *SPOILERS*: Alok meets a stranger who refuses […]
Lucy grows a backbone
Lucy Hutton is oblivious. Let me just start with that. It is abundantly clear within the first chapter, so I don’t think that this is a spoiler, unless you are also oblivious… Basically, this is the story of two office mates with a lot of pent-up sexual frustration. I do not like romances or chic flicks, but I listened to this book on the advice of BethEllen. I will say, that it’s a cute story and some of the quips of the characters made me […]
For a moment, the world stopped.
This is a review for the fourth book in the Throne of Glass series. I listened to the audiobook version. First off, I really like the narrator. I think she adds a lot to the books in this series. (They are very long books and I think would become a bit tedious at times were it not for the dynamic narration.) It also helps to not have to figure out how to pronounce the names in this one… Warning, there will be some minor spoilers […]
“Ask Me About Bacon Time!”
Q: What do Omaha, Fox News, a blow up doll, Captain Crunch, and Ken dolls have in common? A: This amazing book! “Welcome to Omaha” Andy is an ordinary guy whose wife ran out on him. So he ran to New York City. He returns home upon receiving news of his grandfather’s deteriorating health and meets Daisy, a spunky girl who makes him her new project. “Something is wrong here. And not just the obvious stuff, like dildos, the trashed yard, and the fact that […]
