I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too! (Learn more about this Cannonballer: kfishgirl's Quick Questions interview.)

kfishgirl's Reviews:

Traveling back into Viv’s world was a cozy reminder of why I love to read

Bookshops and Bonedust (prequel to Legends and Lattes) by Travis Baldree

February 25, 2026 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

If you read my review of Legends and Lattes, you’ll know that this series is cozy. This one’s a little less cozy, because it’s Viv (the green orc) pre-coffee shop and mid-mercenary. She gets stabbed in the leg badly enough that her group basically leaves her in a town to recuperate until they come back around to get her. For a while Viv can’t walk or do much, and she gets really really bored. Once she can move around a little bit though, she walks […]

I’m always looking to scratch my Michael Connelly itch

The Proving Ground (The Lincoln Lawyer #8) by Michael Connelly

February 19, 2026 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I believe it would not be a lie to say I have read everything Michael Connelly has published. I even read a bunch of anthologies he was a part of with other crime / detective writers. Anyway, when I saw there was another Lincoln Lawyer novel out, I was pumped. I like Mickey Haller a lot as a character, and I like his proximity to my possibly favorite fictional character Harry Bosch (Mickey is Harry’s half-brother). While I’ve mowed through the Bosch books and then […]

I’m a sucker for a Kindle Challenge

Cruel Winter with You by Ali Hazelwood

February 19, 2026 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I wouldn’t call myself the greatest lover of romance novels. In fact, I generally don’t enjoy a book without murder / suspense / mystery, unless it’s really well written. This book was fine, and it satisfied the “Love Letters” achievement for the New Year Kindle Challenge. Like I said, I love a good Kindle Challenge. This one specifically required reading a kindle version of a romance book. As this one was a short story, and written by Ali Hazelwood, it was right up my alley. […]

If you like a “I forgot how the hell I got here” book, this one’s pretty good (hahah get it? PRETTY)

The Prettiest One by James Hankins

February 19, 2026 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I think this might’ve been a random Amazon Kindle find. I can’t quite remember how I got to it. I get books from so many different sources, but I can’t remember anyone recommending this to me, so it was probably Amazon! Our main character Caitlin Sommers wakes up in a parking lot in a car she doesn’t recognize, covered in blood. She has no idea how she got there, where she is, or what she did. She does however remember *who* she is. Caitlin drives […]

The Beauty of the End

CBR 18 is going to be my bi*#$

The Beauty of the End by Lauren Stienstra

February 8, 2026 by kfishgirl 5 Comments

I’m starting out with a bang this year by doing my first review in January! I’m all over the place with CBR’s. Last year I did 1 review for 2 books and I did it on NEW YEAR’S EVE! Yes, the day reviews were due and CBR 17 was closing. To cut myself some slack 2025 was a wee bit of a dumpster fire for my family. We had divorce, cancer, family moving in, too many cats, un-divorce… (everyone is fine now!) The year before […]

Back to Yale, back to Yale, to prove to dad that I won’t fail (sung in Billy Madison “back to school” tune)

Ninth House (Alex Stern #1) by Leigh Bardugo

Hell Bent (Alex Stern #2) by Leigh Bardugo

January 30, 2026 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I don’t know you guys are going to believe this, but I made up that title. It’s not a real song. I was just thinking of “Back to Yale”, since this book is set at Yale, and my brain did the rest! As my boss said today, “your words aren’t wordsing”, so we’ll see how this goes! I read Ninth House almost exactly three years ago. I think I even reviewed it here for whatever CBR we were on in January 2023. I really liked […]
